What you'll do
The Application Specialist serves as a cross-functional expert supporting Canvas Credit Union’s core and ancillary systems. This role blends application support, system administration, and automation development to optimize workflows, ensure system integrity, and enhance operational efficiency. The specialist collaborates with internal teams and external vendors to deliver high-quality technical solutions aligned with strategic initiatives.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Application & System Support
- Monitor and maintain core applications and host systems to ensure performance, reliability, and data integrity.
- Serve as SME for assigned applications, including Symitar (Episys), Jack Henry products, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Provide Tier 2 help desk support, training, and documentation for end users.
- Coordinate evaluation, enhancement, and implementation of software applications.
- Maintain multiple databases and oversee data record storage and retention.
Automation & Process Optimization
- Support Bot scheduling, performance monitoring, and reporting.
- Identify automation opportunities and manage a healthy development pipeline.
- Promote adoption of emerging automation technologies across departments.
Project & Risk Management
- Lead application-related projects, including planning, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
- Develop and execute testing methods to ensure product quality and compliance.
- Identify risks and recommend controls to mitigate operational vulnerabilities.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements including BSA compliance.
Collaboration & Communication
- Act as liaison between technical and functional teams.
- Conduct user group education and problem-solving sessions.
- Build strategic relationships with process stakeholders and vendors.
Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
- Strong understanding of business processes.
- Proficiency in Windows OS, Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment.
- Pre-employment background review (components include criminal, employment, address, social security number, motor vehicle record, global sanctions, and sex offender).
- Current Canvas employees must be meeting performance expectations and consistently demonstrating HEART behaviors to be considered.
Education or Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
Experience: 2–4 years of experience in application support, preferably in a credit union or financial institution.
Working Environment/Physical Activities
High volume, fast-paced, dynamic office environment with some travel. The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines and filing cabinets. The position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets. The position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary. Flexible scheduling including rotating shifts, on-call, evenings, and weekends as needed.
