WATERFRONT DEPARTMENT
Our mission is to provide the community with a quality Waterfront for recreation and commercial use, along with mooring and landside services for boating. Approximately 252 acres of tidelands and submerged lands is managed by the Department. The area encompasses the Harbor and Stearns Wharf. Different from most City departments, Waterfront is an Enterprise Fund and operates from revenues generated from the lands we manage. Tenant rents, boat fees, parking fees, and other sources are put back into improvements and services, such as, preventative maintenance, capital improvements, parking services, staffing, public safety, slip and visitor boat services, special events, public education and more. THE POSITION
Under general supervision performs a variety of general clerical duties, according to departmental assignment. Incumbents perform routine tasks independently, and more difficult assignments while under supervision; may perform any combination of clerical duties. Duties may include: prepare and proofread letters, memos, and reports from rough draft or marginal notes; apply standard procedures to prepare bills, cash deposits, treasury receipts, permits, licenses, purchase orders, and other forms; verify discrepancies; file, answer phones, take messages, and assist the public and employees in a courteous manner; operate personal computer, answer a variety of questions regarding department/division procedures; and perform other work as required. The list established by this recruitment may be utilized by various departments as vacancies occur.
The current vacancy is in the Waterfront Department. The work schedule is Thursday-Monday and may require working selected holidays and special events.
Position Duties
Knowledge of: Office practices and procedures including standard office filing systems, record keeping practices, reference sources, and telephone etiquette; basic mathematics; accounting principles and practices; grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and spelling; computer programs including Windows and Microsoft Office. Skill in: Operating a personal computer; calculator, cash register, copying machine, and fax machine. Ability to: Learn, select, explain, and apply ordinances, codes, policies, and procedures to specific circumstances; answer questions and tactfully present rules, regulations, and procedural information; apply established priorities and procedures to collect and calculate fees, penalties, bills, permits, and licenses; process applications and bills; review documents for errors in format, grammar, punctuation, and spelling; answer phone and assist the public and employees in a courteous manner. License Requirements: Applicant may be required to possess a valid California driver license at time of appointment. Physical Conditions: Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for lifting boxes of files, stooping, standing, walking or sitting for prolonged periods of time, dependent on assignment.
