Job Summary Position: Dental Assistant (Surgical Assistant, EFDA, RDA, CDA)
The Dental Assistant is a vital member of the patient care team, responsible for providing clinical support to providers in accordance with state guidelines. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care, efficient clinical operations, and adherence to all regulatory and safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Consistently provide compassionate, courteous, and professional patient care.
· Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
· Adhere to infection control protocols and safety guidelines to protect patients and staff.
· Accurately document patient clinical records as directed by the provider.
· Educate patients by answering questions about procedures, treatments, and postoperative care, as instructed by the provider.
· Present and schedule treatment plans as directed by the provider.
· Provide efficient chair-side assistance, ensuring all required equipment and supplies are readily available.
· Take radiographs as ordered by the provider.
· Prepare clinical areas and equipment prior to patient arrival.
· Maintain fully stocked operatories and ensure clinical tools and equipment are properly cleaned and sterilized.
· Clean and disinfect all equipment and work surfaces according to established standards.
· Follow all health, safety, and infection control procedures, including the safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste.
· Operate equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations, ensuring regular maintenance.
· Complete laboratory request forms and perform applicable laboratory duties as assigned.
· Assist colleagues with patient care as needed.
· Perform additional administrative or clinical tasks during downtime as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
· Strong understanding of dental and surgical techniques, chair-side responsibilities, and safety protocols.
· Ability to provide empathetic patient care in high-stress situations.
· Professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Outstanding customer service skills.
· Basic computer proficiency: familiarity with Microsoft Office products preferred.
Education and Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Dental Assisting Certification in compliance with state requirements.
· Additional clinical certifications or expanded functions preferred.
· BLS Certification required.
· Minimum of six months prior clinical experience preferred.
· Fluency in English required; Spanish proficiency is a plus.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer or phone.
· Mobility to move throughout the office for patient care, cleaning, and meetings.
· Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds as needed.
