Job Summary:

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, with a strong focus on cost analysis, job costing, and the use of VMS and Sage Intacct. This role is ideal for someone with a deep understanding of construction or service accounting, who can manage detailed cost sheets and help leadership make data-driven decisions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting
  • Maintain and update detailed cost sheets for active and completed construction projects
  • Perform thorough cost analysis and job cost tracking to ensure profitability and accuracy
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes
  • Analyze project performance and support project managers with accurate financial data
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, local/state regulations, and industry-specific requirements
  • Manage and maintain accounting systems and software—specifically Sage Intacct 
  • Work with executive leadership to prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial planning models
  • Develop and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, banks, and tax consultants
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff and support ongoing process improvement



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred)
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Proficient in accounting systems Sage Intacct
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities



Preferred: 

  • Experience with certified payroll, retainage, and construction compliance reporting
  • Working knowledge of AIA billing
  • Experience supporting project management teams with financial reporting and forecasting
