Primary Purpose:

To assist in managing the golf operations at Desert Highlands, including: maintaining a platinum level of service to members and guests; management of outside operations staff; manage daily operations of the golf shop and golf course; Hard Goods Inventory – take primary responsibility for managing hard goods merchandise and achieve budgetary goals; Tournament Preparation – oversee and manage all aspects of Club tournaments and weekly events as assigned by the Director of Golf. Mentor Assistant Professional and Outside Operations staff, and support and enhance Club culture.


Essential Functions:

1. Golf Shop Operations: 

  • Full knowledge of all opening and closing procedures of the golf shop 
  • Manage tee sheet

          -Ensure the tee sheet is set up properly for all events, leagues, and daily play for the season

          -Ensure the tee time lottery is run properly on a daily basis

  • Manage and oversee the execution of all golf events and weekly leagues
  • Manage day to day Golf operations, including:

         -Golf Shop

         -Directional station

         -Starter(s)

         -Player Assistants

         -Outside Operations

  • Manage all golf shop supplies

         -Maintain and stock inventory of daily operation supplies for the golf shop including; 

          gloves, golf balls, scorecards, tees, pencils, matches, ball marks, cart tags, proximities 

          and tee sheets.

  • Set a leadership example for all team members.

2. Retail Operations – Hard Goods

  • Oversee ordering, inventory, and special orders for all hard goods
  • Facilitate Club Fittings and Experience Days to achieve sales goals
  • Oversee club repair operation 

3. Tournament Operations

  • Oversee all Golf events and weekly leagues
  • Mentor and coach Assistant Professionals in tournament operations
  • Credit Book- Check to make sure tournament winners are properly entered into the credit book with correct dates and description of event.
  • Make proper copies of tournament results and enter into the correct files.
  • Manage the tournaments and events assigned.

           -Develop a break even Profit and Loss

           -Market the event ahead of time

           -Ensure the tee sheets are properly set up for the event

  • Ensure all jobs are assigned to staff for the event 

4. Handicaps:

  • Keep accurate records of all additions and deletions to the system.
  • Charge and/or credit all additions and deletions to the system.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of the handicapping system and all pertinent handicap information.

5. Club Repair:

  • Oversee the inventory management for Club Repair
  • Ensure billing and payroll for Club Repair is accurate and timely 

6. Teaching Operations

  • Assist in all daily scheduling of lessons for all teaching assistants.
  • Assist the Director of Instruction when needed
  • Restrict lesson time to times not scheduled for golf shop duty.
  • Keep updated on times needed for clinics and group lessons.
  • Ensure proper club fittings for Members 

7. Miscellaneous Duties:

  • Assume responsibilities of Director of Golf in his/her absence.
  • Maintain playing ability and work to stay competent in all areas of your golf game.
  • Play weekly with a variety of Members
  • Be prepared to fill in at all times in any capacity within the golf operations. 

8. Responsible for maintaining   a clean and safe working environment, with continual emphasis

    on promoting employee health and safety. Assists in training colleagues in proper safety techniques.


9. Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • PGA Class A Membership
  • Two to three years experience as a Lead Assistant or Head Professional preferred
  • Age 21, valid Driver’s License with a clean Motor Vehicle Record. 
  • Reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Present a positive, professional image, clean and neat appearance.
  • Must be self-motivated and customer service oriented.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.

Note: May require CPR/First Aid and AED certification; training will be provided by Desert Highlands. 


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Position is in a private residential and golf community in N. Scottsdale.
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand, bend, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch,   crawl, and walk.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., and to lift overhead and push/pull, move lighter objects.
  • Must be able to frequently stand, walk, sit and bend. 
  • May require reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents, store materials, or   arrange floor displays throughout the workday. 
  • Proper lifting techniques required. 
  • May include lifting up to 25 pounds for files, computer printouts or merchandise on occasion.
  • The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions including high temperatures. 
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
