What we are looking for
We are seeking a strong Senior Accountant with a detail eye that likes being busy and is able to work in a fast-paced environment in-office role in Austin, Texas. This role will work with a small accounting team that supports our business. This role will report directly to the Assistant Controller and will have open communications on a daily basis plus will be working with a collaborative team of professionals.
The successful candidate must demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, great communication skills and a strong knowledge in work and excel.
Overview:
Will be responsible for a large portion of the month-end entries and bank/GL reconciliations in compliance with GAAP, corporate policies and external audits. They will also be responsible for conducting initial accuracy checks of general ledger accounts ahead of month-end close and submitting them to the Assistant Controller and/or CFO.
Essential Functions:
Will work closely with the Assistant Controller and CFO, and work closely with other senior members of the company. A strong candidate will also be open to both learning from and mentoring junior accounting staff. Candidate must have a history of progressive accounting experience and the willingness to roll up his/her sleeves and pitch in to be a team player.
Solid technical accounting background with a strong understanding of accounting principles and GL reporting is a MUST. A strong candidate should be willing to work proactively to drive results and should describe themselves as self-starters, flexible, and with a high level of integrity. They should be goal-oriented and comfortable in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate/drive the monthly financial close process, including:
- Preparing, submitting for review, and making a number of detailed monthly journal entries/allocations
- Ensuring all costs are properly recorded
- Account balance reconciliations and report preparation
- Reconciliation of corporate bank accounts
- Assist and serve as back up for junior accounting staff in completing their month-end entries/work in preparation of month end reviews
- Ensure compliance with internal control policies and continuously participate in the ongoing development of accounting policies and operational strategies
- Assist Assistant Controller/CFO in external audits including collecting necessary backup to ensure successful and timely audit results and compliance
- Interacts at all levels and with budget owners or other stakeholders to produce timely, efficient and accurate month-end close
- Responsible for hierarchy and scalability in chart of accounts and accuracy in the general ledger
- Analyze the effect of statutory accounting practices and studies regulations and guidance to ensure correct application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Ensure timeliness, quality, completeness of all financial and accounting transactions and reporting

Requirements
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
- At least 4 years general progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a Junior/Staff Accountant or equivalent position in a corporate setting
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
- Experience in retail is preferred
- Experience working with multi-company GLs
- Must be detail-oriented and work effectively both independently and in a team environment
- Excellent technical accounting and research skills in complex and ambiguous situations
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to track and manage several projects simultaneously
- Must be flexible and able to work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
- Must be proficient in Excel, and have experience with Microsoft products including Word, Teams and Outlook
- Excellent Communication skills (written and verbal)
