About the Department
Under general supervision, the Surface Water Treatment Plant Manager oversees all operations and maintenance staff and activities involved in the intake, treatment, and distribution of raw water supplies for the City.
Position Duties
- Oversees all daily operations involved with surface water treatment processes; provides assistance and responds to employee questions as needed.
- Monitors Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA), gauges, and charts to ensure treatment and production processes are functional, consistent with rate/flow formula computations, and are operating within safe parameters.
- Supervises chemical analysis testing by plant operators to ensure proper analytical protocols are followed.
- Supervises treatment staff; manages timesheets; reviews and authorizes employee expenditures and expense reports.
- Coordinates special water sampling with State and Federal agencies.
- Responds to various correspondence; addresses customer concerns and questions.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Work is performed in a standard office environment and throughout treatment facilities and requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, and standing water. May be required to climb ladders.
Other Qualifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalent;
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible surface water treatment experience;
- OR an equivalent combination of educaiton, training, and experience.
- Valid Driver's License
- Grade A Surface Water Operation certification.

- Interacting tactfully and professionally with City staff, outside agencies, and the public.
- Typing and entering data with speed and accuracy.
- Maintaining accurate records and filing systems.
- Preparing clear and concise reports.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
