Job Title:                   Safety Technician

Department:              Operations

Reports to:                Plant Operations Manager

Location:                   Adirondack Bat Manufacturing Plant Dolgeville, NY

FLSA Status:             Hourly 

 

General Overview: Safety Technician is responsible for providing Safety Team leadership for the Adirondack Operation including facility compliance with corporate standards, implementation of safety directives, improved safety performance, and execution of facility safety policies and procedures in accordance with government regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Implements safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Oversee auditing, reporting, safety inspections, administering safety policies, and implementing safety-training programs.
  • Conducts facility safety audits and implementing appropriate changes to correct or comply with regulations/standards.
  • Coordinates reports to regulatory Local, State, and Federal Agencies along with required reports to Corporate
  • Investigates all reports of accidents or incidents relating to company resources in conjunction with corporate and local management.
  • Ensures that all facility equipment meets safety regulations and that employees use all equipment and tools correctly.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines. Responsible for proper care and maintenance of all facilities and equipment. All areas used by employees, customers, vendors, must always be free of hazards. Also, all equipment such as fire extinguishers, PPE and ergonomic devices must be available and in good working conditions.
  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies, management team and staff to formulate corrective actions.
  • Designs training for all levels of employees and ensure personnel training and corrective action follow-up are completed.
  • Develops and implements accident investigation, data analysis, and recurrence prevention programs and procedures.
  • Coordinates forklift training and certification of warehouse personnel and tracks recertification needs.
  • Develops and leads the Safety Team to support the above activities.
  • Trains employees on Right to Know safety programs.
  • Conduct training audits to the work instructions to identify gaps and correct deficiencies.
  • Manage the Work Instruction training database.
  • Document process for training and improving training process for employees.
  • Audit the employees when training is due for Work Instructions
  • Manage the 6S program.
  • Collaborate with managers to perform essential audits for 6S program.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Characteristics:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with one to three years’ production experience preferred.
  • Understanding of applicable workplace safety laws, regulations, and language as it relates to state and federal requirements.
  • Manufacturing/Operations industry experience 
  • Develop experience in dealing with regulatory agencies (DOT, OSHA, etc.)
  • Good interpersonal and management skills
  • Strong oral/written communication skills
  • Strong computer and organizational skills
  • Maintain high-level of confidentiality. 
  • High level of professionalism and positive people-interface skills

 TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Some travel may be required.

 Working Conditions: Clean, organized, climate-controlled warehouse and production work environment and general office environment.

 Safety Hazards: Depending upon production department, may be exposed to dust, airborne fibers, dirt, noise, vibrations, chemicals, and solvents. Safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe boots, gloves, sleeves, smocks, and positive pressure full-face hoods are required while performing certain tasks.


LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications and procedures. Must have good verbal communication skills. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to apply concepts of basic math and reading measurements (fractions and decimals)

 

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to recognize a situation and escalate clearly. Ability to deal with problems and contribute to problem solving.
