Role and Responsibilities
Direct Report: Team Leader / Manager
Candidates Required: 1
Key Deliverables:
- Power System Studies & Analysis
- Conduct steady state and transient studies, including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, and power quality (harmonics, flicker).
- Perform grid compliance, grid impact, grid integration, and power evacuation studies.
- Carry out contingency analysis, insulation coordination (switching studies), and stability studies (LVRT/HVRT for renewable plants).
- Execute grounding and cable ampacity studies.
- Advanced Modelling & Tools
- Develop RMS and EMT models; mandatory experience with PSSE, EMTP, PSCAD.
- Update modelling libraries as needed in ETAP/PowerFactory.
- Apply coding, scripting, and automation in DSL/Python to support studies.
- Renewable Energy & Equipment Modelling
- Model and analyse solar PV plants, wind turbines, and BESS systems.
- Apply manual engineering calculations for reactive power, short circuit, transformer sizing, CT/PT sizing, earthing/lightning protection, and protection schemes (unit, non-unit, distance).
- Apply knowledge of HVDC systems, FACTS devices (SVC, STATCOM), and advanced protection settings.
- Review vendor documents and protection schemes (inverters, BESS, wind turbines).
- Support site activities including relay setting and harmonic measurement.
- Documentation, Reporting & Communication
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and performance curves.
- Document assumptions, methodologies, and outputs for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support business development through technical blogs and white papers.
- Standards, Compliance & Knowledge Sharing
- Apply IEC, IEEE, NEC, and South African Standards in performing studies.
- Ensure compliance with South African and Eskom grid codes
- Support knowledge transfer and adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) commitments.
- Work closely with India-based project managers during the initial months for delivery alignment
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BE/B.Tech).
- 6–12 years of experience in power system studies and grid compliance for renewable projects.
- Strong background in renewable energy projects (solar, wind, BESS); exposure to green hydrogen is an advantage.
- Candidates from Oil & Gas or process industries with relevant systems experience will also be well suited for this role
- Candidates should have demonstrable experience contributing to portfolios totalling at least 1 GW of renewable projects
- Expertise in ETAP, DIgSILENT, PSSE, EMTP, PSCAD.
- Proficiency in scripting/automation (DSL, Python) desirable.
- Strong manual calculation skills for core electrical engineering tasks.
- Excellent communication, presentation and coordination skills for multi-stakeholder engagement.
- Strong technical report writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to lead and take accountability for project deliverables.
- Familiarity with South African/Eskom utility standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Direct experience engaging with Eskom or the Department of Electricity is highly preferred
- Cross-country or multicultural project experience in Africa.
- Willingness to travel and stay as required for projects in South Africa.
- Commitment to comply with organisational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving project scopes and requirements.
Location: South Africa – Johannesburg or Cape Town, to be confirmed with initial remote work. Relocation support may be considered for exceptional candidates if office location differs.
Travel: Travel as needed for projects within South Africa

Contracting Period: 12 months, potential pathway to permanent employment
