Position Summary

The Vice President of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for shaping and executing the enterprise-wide EH&S strategy. This role provides visionary leadership and operational excellence in all areas of environmental compliance, employee health, workplace safety, and risk management.

The Vice President of EH&S drives a proactive safety culture that protects our people, strengthens regulatory compliance, enhances operational performance, and reinforces Sharps Medical Waste Services’ commitment to being an industry leader in safe and sustainable practices. This executive will design and oversee programs that embed accountability at every level of the organization, ensuring safety and compliance are integrated into our daily operations and long-term growth strategy.

Requirements

 Key Responsibilities:

·Strategic Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine the company’s EH&S strategy in alignment with corporate goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Serve as the CEO’s trusted advisor on all EH&S matters, providing data-driven insights and recommendations that influence enterprise-wide decision making.

· Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Oversee preparation, submission, and accuracy of all required reports, certifications, and audits.
  • Anticipate emerging regulations and proactively position the organization to meet or exceed future compliance standards.

· Risk Management

  • Establish and lead enterprise-wide systems to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, procedural, and environmental risks.
  • Partner with senior leaders and site management to ensure corrective measures are executed swiftly and effectively.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation management, insurance partnerships, and cost-containment strategies.

· Culture & Engagement

  • Champion a behavior-based safety culture, empowering employees at all levels to take ownership of safe practices.
  • Develop training and leadership programs that build awareness, engagement, and accountability across the organization.
  • Promote continuous improvement and foster a culture of operational excellence.

· Performance & Metrics

  • Define and manage KPIs that measure progress, performance, and outcomes of EH&S programs.
  • Provide executive reporting and dashboards to the CEO, Board, and other stakeholders, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

· M&A and Growth Integration

  • Lead EH&S due diligence, onboarding, and integration efforts for acquisitions and new sites.
  • Ensure scalable EH&S programs that support the company’s growth trajectory.

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • 15+ years of progressive EH&S leadership experience, including at least 10 years in a senior management or executive role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing enterprise-wide EH&S strategies, policies, and compliance programs.
  • Proven success leading EH&S functions across multi-site operations within manufacturing, logistics, or related industries.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance regulatory compliance, risk management, and operational priorities.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills; able to present complex information with clarity to executives, regulators, and frontline employees.
  • Experience driving cultural change in continuous improvement and behavioral-based safety environments.
  • Ability to travel up to 50–75% to support nationwide sites and initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EH&S management systems.
