Title: Interpreting Services Manager (ISM)

Classification: Full-time

FLSA: Exempt

Salary: $60k-$65k

Reports to: Vice President of Interpreting Services (VP-IS)

LocationOrlando, FL


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the leadership and management of the Vice President of Interpreting Services (VP-IS), the Interpreting Services Manager (ISM) will be responsible for supporting the market’s existing clients while championing initiatives to grow Interpretek’s American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services both regionally and nationally. The ISM will work in collaboration with the Director of Interpreting Services (D-IS) and the Coordinating Services Manager (CSM) to support Interpretek’s operational and strategic objectives. Strong organizational, interpersonal and outstanding customer service skills are required as well as the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with Senior Leadership, employees, clients and independent contractor interpreters across the multi-state organization. The ISM will be looked upon as a professional representative of Interpretek in their local markets and national communities. Interpretek is a fast paced, high energy work environment and the ISM must be able to thrive in such an environment and culture.


Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Demonstrate understanding of and compliance with Interpretek’s core values, standards, and industry best practices, and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Consciously create and support a workplace culture that is consistent with and emphasizes the mission, vision, and values of Interpretek.
  • Under the leadership of the VP-IS, collaborate with the D-IS and CSM on supporting and enhancing existing client relationships while also focusing on business development efforts to scale the business. 
  • Make recommendations to the VP-IS and Senior Leadership for growing market share, improving the client experience, and driving interpreter recruitment efforts within the market.
  • Foster positive relations with existing clients while actively seeking new opportunities by attending trade shows and other events and functions in the Deaf community. 
  • Exercise consistent client outreach, follow-up, and relationship development initiatives.
  • As a critical member of the cross-functional team, contribute to performance evaluations of the staff supporting the ISM’s assigned markets.
  • Participate as an active and engaged member of the (Request for Proposal) RFP team to support business development and community outreach initiatives.
  • Provide effective oversight and management of timely client contract renewals.
  • Assist with the onboarding assessment and requirements for independent contractors (IC’s).
  • Attend and contribute to coordinator and job board team meetings for various market areas.
  • Engage in local on-site community interpreting, along with occasional VRI Interpreting assignments to encompass a portion of on-going responsibilities. 
  • Member of the “On Call” rotation team charged with responding to after hour inquiries and providing necessary assistance.
  • Other projects as assigned.
  • Occasional travel may be required. 


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • A positive, self-motivated leader who will work effectively in a team environment; receive support from and provide support to colleagues.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and outstanding client service skills are required.
  • Possess the ability to quickly learn and implement new and changing technologies.
  • Proficiency in computer and technology skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage client escalations in a timely and professional manner.
  • Willingness to enhance management and interpreting skills through continued education and training.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Maintain, as applicable, compliance with any national, state, or local licensure and/or certification requirements.


REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS, AND SKILLS:

  • BA/BS degree and RID Certification required. 
  • 5+ years of experience as an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter in a variety of settings preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills required (both verbal and written).
  • Previous client services and business development experience are strongly preferred.
  • Membership in an interpreting-related professional association is preferred.
