You will support the Student Finance Manager in managing student and external customer accounts, improving financial systems and processes, and guiding fee and credit control activities within the Student Fees Team. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure service levels are met, lead on Educational Partner reporting, and represent Finance in committees and working groups as needed.

About the Role

You will manage financial interactions with Educational Partners, including preparing monthly debtor reports, coordinating withdrawal lists, and resolving outstanding balances through regular meetings. You’ll lead tuition and accommodation fee invoicing, enforce credit control procedures, and handle debt recovery actions while ensuring billing accuracy and assessing creditworthiness.

The role involves line management responsibilities such as setting team objectives, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. You’ll provide high-level customer service by resolving complex student finance queries, supporting Federal Aid disbursements, and representing Finance at university-wide events.

Financial assurance duties include reviewing ledgers, supporting audits, and managing risks related to fraud or money laundering in line with university policies. Finally, you’ll drive process and system improvements, oversee testing of system upgrades, and stay informed on policy changes affecting student finance operations.

About You


  • Part-qualified accountant (AAT or equivalent), degree-level education, or substantial experience in financial operations, particularly in debt management and reporting.

  • Proven ability to lead customer-focused services and drive continuous improvement through process re-engineering and strategic management.

  • Strong IT proficiency across Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel), databases, and bespoke finance systems; adept at providing statistical insights to senior management.
  • Hands-on experience managing bad debt and implementing strategies to minimise financial risk.

  • Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills; capable of translating financial data for non-financial stakeholders and integrating electronic systems across financial platforms.

Additional Information

Salary Grade 6 - Starting from £33,951  rising to £37,694 per annum

The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
