Who We Are

Founded in 2001, LEARN is a non profit  network of PreK-8th grade elementary schools that is creating measurable, transformational change in the lives of its students. We currently educate 4,100 students, a majority low-income, minority student population (88% and 98%, respectively), across 12 campuses across Chicago, Lake County, and Washington D.C.

What You’ll Do:

 

LEARN is seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer based at our Herro Campus on the West side of Chicago, who will travel across the network. Primarily you will focus on preventative maintenance and repair work by supporting the maintenance and smooth operation of LEARN’s campuses and grounds. Part of the duties include cleaning, basic maintenance, and setup/teardown for events, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for students and staff. 

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to : 

 

  • Owning the Hvac operations, updates and maintenance across the network of schools 
  • Assure safety during inclement weather to include shoveling, salting, providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, snow removal from roofs, removing debris from downspouts when clogged, etc. 
  • Apply cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures.
  • Perform minor painting to walls, rails, playgrounds and other areas of the school. 
  • Keep all equipment in a good state of repair and cleanliness. Initiate maintenance service requests according to Network procedures. 
  • Secure equipment and supplies and protects against loss, theft, or abuse. 
  • Periodically inspects, or otherwise maintains awareness of, facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage. 
  • Secure school buildings to ensure proper building security at all times. Lock, secure and clock out of the building at end of the day
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with others
  • Maintain ground including mowing watering, trimming hedges, removing weeds, raking and disposing of leaves, 
  • Perform repairs to masonry, woodwork, and furnishing. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

What You'll Need


Must Have Qualifications:

Training on maintenance, intrusion alarms, automatic fire alarm/sprinkler systems, mechanicals, electric, rooftop HVAC, and other school facility systems.

  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have your own tools
  • Must have Hvac experience working on facilities’ rooftops (rooftop technician exp) 
  • Must have building codes knowledge  
  • School setting or Hospital building maintenance experience
  • Reliable transportation, valid drivers license, and willing to travel to multiple campuses network wide
  • Must be a proven problem solver 


 

You’ll be a great fit if you also have: 

  • You are meticulous about cleanliness standards and take full ownership of building appearance.
  • Experienced in building/facility operations, understanding of janitorial, maintenance, and construction efforts.
  • Adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment. 
  • Demonstrated experience performing minor repair and maintenance work
  • Must be extremely service-oriented, proactive, and pay strong attention to detail.
  • Must uphold a high standard of service and expectations.

  • Experience in developing and implementing procedures.
