Electric Generation Renewable Construction – Project Manager

The City of Painesville, Ohio, is assembling a team of experienced professionals in renewable energy and energy infrastructure, with expertise in project development, construction, and project financing. This is an opportunity to join a fully capitalized development platform, build a top-tier renewables systems and contribute significantly to the energy transition from coal/steam generation to sustainable renewable generation.


Project Manager Scope of Renewable Generation Project

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing safety, scope, schedule, cost, and quality for all assigned projects, acting as the liaison between internal stakeholders, utilities, system operators, regulatory entities, suppliers, and construction contractors. This role is ideal for individuals with prior experience in energy storage, solar PV, transmission & distribution substation, or power generation project management, seeking an engaging position in the rapidly evolving energy storage and utility-scale PV industry.

The Project Manager in Solar and BESS construction is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end execution of projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and according to quality standards. This involves managing teams, coordinating resources, monitoring progress, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a deep understanding of both solar and energy storage technologies. 

 

Responsibilities of Full-Time Project Manager:

Development Responsibilities of the Project Manager:

  • Assist the development team in preparing and reviewing cost estimates for solar and battery energy storage projects.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cash flow, and reports as may be required for CPRG compliance.
  • Support the preparation of RFPs, evaluate proposals, and work directly with EPC contractors.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external partners, equipment suppliers, utilities, and the Painesville community.
  • Developing and managing project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans. 
  • Perform bid evaluations with the project team, review terms and conditions, interface with legal, and lead contract negotiations.
  • Lead weekly project meetings, maintain action items, prepare meeting minutes, review RFIs, manage risks and opportunities, forecast financials, mitigate risks and opportunities, track issues, perform change management, and document lessons learned.
  • Develop project schedules to sequence and track project progress in coordination with selected EPC contractors.
  • Perform change management through contract scope modifications and invoice approvals.
  • Coordinate with internal and external parties, including management, project team members, utilities, AHJs, professional services, EPC contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Prepare and review project reports for management and maintain overall project schedules through regular updates.

 

Qualifications for Electric Project Manager:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in engineering/project management within the energy storage, electric transmission & distribution systems, substation operations and management, in the power generation industry. Solar/Battery energy storage experience preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and work independently when necessary.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Safety certifications and a clean track record.
  • Prior experience in developing and maintaining written reports, operational metrics, and key performance indicators.

This position is Classified by the City of Painesville as a Grade 25 with an annual salary range of $87,089 - $117,332 dependent on an evaluation of qualifications including education, electric generation field experience, substation operations and design experience, and power distribution design experience.
