Position Overview
The Human Resources Assistant is a critical support role within The Bassett Firm, responsible for comprehensive human resources administration, payroll processing, and legal office support. This position serves as a key operational support function, ensuring smooth HR processes, employee administrative needs, and maintaining the firm's human resources infrastructure.
Primary Responsibilities
Payroll and Compensation Management
- Process bi-weekly payroll with accuracy and precision
- Review and validate employee timesheets
- Coordinate leave of absence tracking
- Process financial compensations and deductions
- Annual bonuses
- Severance pay
- Shareholder payments
- Update salary and wage adjustments
- Manage employee movement and compensation changes
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Coordinate full recruitment lifecycle
- Coordinate interviews and candidate communications
- Conduct reference and background checks
- Manage drug screening processes
- Execute comprehensive onboarding program
- Prepare new hire packets
- Coordinate training and orientation
- Manage new employee welcome processes
- Support performance review processes
Benefits Administration
- Manage employee benefits program
- Process claims and change reporting
- Handle benefits invoices
- Communicate benefits information
- Conduct benefits and 401K orientations
- Maintain accurate HRIS data and personnel files
Compliance and Reporting
- Track and manage unemployment claims
- Coordinate reporting for:
- Texas Workforce Commission (TWC)
- Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
- Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
- Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA)
- Stay current with employment laws and regulations
- Support policy and procedure development
Administrative and Support Functions
- Provide administrative support to Director of Operations
- Review firm invoices and expense reports
- Maintain IT inventory
- Act as liaison with Managed IT Services
- Provide backup coverage for:
- Receptionist
- Office Administration Assistant
- Paralegal Assistant
- Complete special projects and administrative tasks
Requirements
Required
- Certification, Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 1-3 years of HR or administrative experience
- Knowledge in payroll processing and HR administration
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Typing speed of 60 WPM
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Passion for People, Processes, and Payroll
Preferred
- Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR)
- Experience in the legal professional services industry
- Advanced knowledge of employment law
