MUST have CCAR and MDHHS with a Minimum of 3 years in recovery to qualify.
Job Summary: The Peer Recovery Coach working inside the jail supports individuals with substance use disorders who are currently or formerly involved in the criminal justice system. Using their lived experience with recovery and the justice system, the coach provides mentorship, advocacy, and guidance to help clients achieve and sustain recovery, reintegrate into the community and reduce recidivism.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support and adhere to the NPI Code of Ethics, work rules, policies, plans and procedures to promote a safe and secure environment for the residents, visitors and employees of New Paths.
- Facilitate recovery-focused group discussions and one on one peer support for those pre and post release from jail, or court mandated programs.
- Assist clients in completing capitol assessments, creating individualized and reentry plans that address substance use, housing, employment, legal obligations and social support.
- Serve as a role model of recovery by sharing personal experiences of recovery and successful community reintegration.
- Help individuals navigate the criminal justice system and connect with parole, probation officers, court services, and community resources.
- Support clients in accessing treatment services, peer groups, job training and educational opportunities.
- Maintain documentation of services and client interactions in accordance with agency and privacy standards and submit billing.
- Collaborate with community partners, clinical staff, case managers, and other justice system professionals to ensure coordinated care.
- Participate in ongoing training and supervision to maintain certification, efficiency and effectiveness.
- Flexibility to engage in community harm reduction program events.
Qualifications:
- Will actively pursue recovery in their own lives as well as role model recovery for others.
- Must be in active recovery from substance use for a minimum of 3 years.
- Former justice system involvement strongly preferred.
- Ability to maintain boundaries and handle situations confidentially.
- Strong communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google or related software. (EMR)
- Ability to build trust and work in correctional or community settings.
- Understanding of recovery principles, harm reduction, trauma informed care, and cultural competence.
- Skill in communicating with a variety of people from various backgrounds
- The ability to work in a team.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to deliver information and services in a timely fashion.
- Exhibit problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED
- Peer Recovery Coach certification through CCAR and MDHHS
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking.
- Must be able to go up and down stairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
