General Summary

The Commercial Lines Premium Audit Technician will review vendor premium audit results, verify data and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulations with the company’s commercial policyholders. Key duties include reviewing policyholder records, calculating credited or owed premiums based on actual exposures, collaborating with Commercial Lines Underwriting to address discrepancies, managing invoicing and communicating with our licensed agencies as necessary.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews and processes premium audit reports with accuracy for Commercial Lines policies, adhering to company standards.
  • Handles invoicing function to policyholders, maintaining precise records.
  • Communicates with policyholders, agents and auditors to resolve discrepancies and obtain necessary information.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation of audit findings, ensuring that audited exposures are calculated accordingly.
  • Collaborates with underwriting and accounting teams to ensure proper premium adjustments.
  • Actively works with and understands the functions of field and desk underwriters as well as audit vendors.
  • May provide underwriting consultation on appropriate classifications at policy renewal.
  • Completes audit responsibilities within prescribed timeframes along with planning, organizing and managing assigned workload.
  • Provides timely and accurate service to policyholders, agents and internal departments for the completion of the audit process on moderately complex risks.
  • Offers information and feedback as required to support effective communication with both internal and external customers.
  • Escalates technical issues within function or unit.
  • Assesses customer needs and provides feedback or recommended changes for improvements to processes, customer service or products.
  • Always maintains confidentiality of information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Abilities

  • Prefer knowledge of ISO General Liability & Commercial Auto rules, manuals and industry practices.
  • General liability, auto, inland marine and garage liability auditing experience is a plus.
  • General insurance industry experience.
  • Microsoft Office experience coupled with Microsoft Excel skills; this encompasses the Microsoft suite of products with a strong proficiency in technology in general and willingness to learn the company administration systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on negotiation and conflict resolution with our agency partners.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education/

Experience Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field, preferred.
  • Experience in casualty premium audit preferred.
  • APA Certification (Associate in Premium Auditing), CPCU Certification (Chartered Property Casual Underwriter) or other industry-related designations preferred.
