Position Summary:
We are looking for a versatile and self-driven Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical and environmental design across our Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) infrastructure. You’ll drive the evaluation and selection of enclosures, cabling, power solutions, and mounting systems — designing, testing, integrating, and optimizing both indoor and outdoor deployment hardware. This role blends core engineering fundamentals with make vs buy analysis, hands-on prototyping, field collaboration, and supplier coordination — ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Engineering & Development:
- Evaluate and optimize OEM telecom enclosures, antenna housings, pole/rooftop mounts, brackets, and thermal solutions.
- Standardize equipment platforms to improve field install efficiency and reduce costs.
- Perform make-vs-buy analysis and qualify alternate hardware sources to reduce supply chain risk.
- Design for outdoor environmental challenges — heat, corrosion, vibration, ingress (IP/NEMA).
- Produce 3D models and 2D technical drawings in CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.).
- Develop and document clear mechanical documentation for cabling, power, and assembly to support consistent, high-quality and efficient installations.
- Maintain detailed full-stream cost models covering hardware, software, and services used in deployments
- Prototyping & Testing:
- Build and test mechanical prototypes and assemblies.
- Conduct environmental, vibration, thermal, and ingress protection (IP) testing as needed.
- Field & Operational Support:
- Work closely with field team to refine designs to improve install ability, reliability, and serviceability.
- Visit customer sites for installation validation and troubleshooting.
- Project Coordination:
- Coordinate across supply chain, procurement, sales, field ops, service delivery, and finance
- Ensure alignment on qualification status, full-stream costs, and deployment readiness.
- Collaborate with electrical/network engineering to ensure seamless mechanical-electrical integration.
- Manage supplier relationships for sourcing and quality assurance.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure designs meet industry standards for telecom, safety, and environmental (e.g., NEMA, NEBS, UL, IP ratings).
- Maintain accurate documentation for mechanical and electro-mechanical designs and installations.
- Own and implement the engineering change control process to ensure that design modifications are communicated, traceable, and systematically implemented.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical, Thermo-Mechanical, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience - telecom, electronics, or infrastructure strongly preferred.
- CAD proficiency (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360) and simulation tools (FEA, CFD).
- Field experience with equipment integration and mechanical assembly.
- Knowledge of materials, coatings, sealing, and thermal management in outdoor environments.
- Familiarity with RF shielding, grounding, and thermal dissipation for electronic equipment.
- Experience with telecom industry standards (e.g., GR-487, NEBS).
- Excellent communication, documentation, cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience with outdoor wireless systems (e.g., 5G mmWave or FWA deployments) is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment.
