Roof Above is North Carolina’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. We focus on individuals experiencing homelessness by offering everything from street outreach to shelter to rapid rehousing to permanent supportive housing. Our services and programs reach more than 1,400 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was created through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Case Manager role will provide direct support to residents of a substance-free, shared housing community for men. This individual will help tenants access community-based resources, support compliance with community guidelines, and foster a strong sense of community within the property. The Case Manager will develop and offer enrichment programming and coordinate opportunities for personal growth, recovery, and connection. This position also plays a critical role in addressing property-related concerns such as rent arrears, unit maintenance needs, and other violations.
The Case Manager will report directly to the Centre Terrace Site Manager. Case Managers will be expected to engage tenants in a trauma-informed and person-centered way.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide consistent case management support to adult male residents in a shared housing sober living environment
- Coordinate linkage to community supports helping connect residents with appropriate medical, behavioral health, recovery, employment, and social supports
- Offer and facilitate enrichment programming focused on life skills, recovery support, wellness, and community building
- Support conflict resolution and mediate interpersonal challenges among residents using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
- Monitor for and address potential violations, including late rent, unit care, and behavioral concerns
- Partner with Site Manager and Office Manager to uphold safety, cleanliness, and lease compliance
- Collaborate with community partners to enhance services and bring additional resources on-site
- Participate in random toxicology screening protocols in accordance with the program’s sober living model
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and internal tracking systems
- Participate in team meetings, case conferencing, and supervision
- Maintain program culture aligned with Roof Above’s mission and values
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of two years' experience in supportive housing, case management, recovery services, or similar field
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in navigating conflict and building rapport
- Familiarity with harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care
- Experience working with individuals in recovery or substance-free housing preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and client data systems; HMIS experience a plus
- Valid driver’s license required
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Centre Terrace is a substance-free, shared housing community designed for adult men with a history of homelessness. The program emphasizes stability and long-term housing support while requiring sobriety as a condition of tenancy. Residents have access to onsite case management, enrichment programming, and support in navigating both community-based services and interpersonal dynamics. Random toxicology screening is a component of the community accountability model.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This position is based onsite at the Centre Terrace property. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, though occasional evening or weekend hours may be required based on tenant needs or community programming. The role requires someone who can work independently, respond calmly to crisis situations, and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a respectful and compassionate manner.
