JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Security Captain, the Security Staff Sergeant, as the Training Officer and TWIC Agent, is responsible for scheduling and coordinating training classes at a refinery facility. The Security Staff Sergeant will act as a designated TWIC Agent on behalf of the client. The position requires a high level of customer service skill, sound judgment, and the ability to build effective partnerships with the client and representatives of multiple contract companies.

Other duties include tracking prerequisite training requirements, conducting audits, administrative support for contract security operations, handling confidential or sensitive materials, generating reports, and verifying drug and alcohol compliance. Work activities demand a high attention to detail and accuracy, and will require interacting professionally by phone, email, and in-person on a daily basis.

The Security Staff Sergeant will serve as a member of the jobsite management team and may be asked to serve as backup to the Security Captain (jobsite Manager) or as a front-line Sergeant, as needed. The incumbent may also be asked to serve as a Security Officer if business needs deem necessary.

Work Schedule: Urban (Mon-Fri)/PTO Eligible

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of prior experience in military, law enforcement, corrections, or private security
  • 1 year of lead worker or supervisory experience
  • Ability to lead with professionalism, respect and integrity at all times
  • Ability to teach and train others
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong decision making and incident/event management skills
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Compliance or ability to be compliant with any State and/or local laws and regulations governing those working as Unarmed Security Officers
  • Per regulatory requirements, a Transportation Worker’s Identification Card (TWIC) is required, or able to obtain. (Must be able to pass an additional criminal background and credit history check to become a TWIC Agent upon hire.)
  • As a condition of employment, must be able to successfully complete a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and a post-offer basic physical.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of previous supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of security services and developing Security Post Orders in the private sector
  • Knowledge and ability to develop and maintain a Security Officer Training Program
  • Advanced skills utilizing common office related computer programs plus ability to learn proprietary programs unique to client

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Works safely and complies with all company/client safety and risk management policies and procedures.

  • Performs a variety of administrative duties in accordance with established standard policies and procedures.
    • Enters information in designated computer systems.
    • Maintains records, prepares forms, verifies information, and resolves routine problems.
    • Multi-tasks performing activities such as compiling records, tabulating, posting information and scheduling appointments.
    • Assists in maintaining regulatory compliance.
    • Opens and routes incoming mail, answers correspondence and prepares outgoing mail. Operates various office equipment.
    • Answers incoming calls, refers calls to appropriate person, and takes messages.
  • Follows and enforces standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols at the job site and ensures the observance of applicable laws.
  • Effectively and coherently communicates over radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications.
  • Uses sound judgment and discretion while handling confidential and sensitive material.
  • Participates in regular safety meeting, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Be trained and able to fill-in, on occasion, at select access control posts in the absence of the regularly scheduled officer.
  • Expected to meet regular attendance goals of the company, relate well with other employees and managers, and perform according to company expectations.
  • Understand the administrative duties and responsibilities of the Security Captain and Security Sergeant positions. May be asked to assume some or all of the following responsibilities in their absence:
    • Supervise on the job training of assigned personnel, provide direct instruction to security officers, and ensure that client and DUS training program requirements are met.
    • Maintain established standards of officer performance by personal example. Supervise staff and provide coaching, recognition and discipline within approved empowerment range.  
    • Evaluate and provide feedback to officers regarding their reports, daily duties and procedures in order to achieve optimum overall performance.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Successfully complete training upon hire to obtain status as a Universal Enrollment Services Agent (TWIC).

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The majority of work is performed in and around a refinery setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee’s work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.  Candidate will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire basic physical.
