Summary


This SBA Assistant supports the entire Gulf Coast Small Business Lending (GCSBL) group through many different activities. There primary role is to assist with initial application pre-screening, file preparation, underwriting, pre-closing and post-closing processes. The SBA Loan Assistant will be responsible to perform a variety of processing and review functions, ensuring due diligence items for each loan comply with the SBA Authorization and complies with the bank’s internal loan approval. The person in this role will gain the knowledge and experience to transition to another position within the GCSBL. This could be an underwriter, closer or servicing specialist. 


Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of duties to support the Small Business Lending Group.
  • Assists with loan application processing tasks.
  • Reviews application for completeness.
  • Requests missing information.
  • Creates and organizes the loan file.
  • Orders third party reports (credit reports, background checks, eligibility items, appraisals, etc.).
  • Prepares initial financial spreads.
  • Notifies appropriate team members when the file is ready for underwriting.  
  • Manages customer good faith deposits to include completing all deposits to Small Business Lending Group’s account, paying invoices and assisting with the reconciliation of the GL account.
  • Maintains the check registry for outgoing check from the Small Business Lending Group’s account.
  • Assists with imaging of the loan closing documents and ensures all appropriate information is complete and current.
  • Contributes to the Company's growth and customer satisfaction by helping customers to resolve problems.
  • Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
  • Cross trains and supports all other positions within the Servicing Team.
  • Prepares and maintains the weekly loan pipeline reports.
  • Performs E-Tran or SBA One prescreening function.
  • Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of sexual harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the bank’s compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with various administrative tasks to support department operations, as directed; may also be assigned special projects.
  • Adheres to policy & procedure of Small Business Lending group and must comply with BSA/AML/OFAC regulations and guidelines.
  • Participates in outside classes, seminars, meetings and training to constantly improve development, remain current and aware of new growth opportunities.
  • Follows all safety and security procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements


Skills/Experience/Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting preferred.
  • Must have a good understanding of small business loan process.
  • Requires a high level of independent problem solving to perform all essential duties.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • PC Proficiency in Desktop, Laptop, Tablet, and Smartphone devices as well as Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team environment with proven ability to meet deadlines. Attention to detail is imperative.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to learn and prioritize specialized loan processing tasks.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task.

Essential Mental & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions. 
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required.
  • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 15 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division any “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
