WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE
The Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all sanitation activities across designated areas, including but not limited to the harvest trailer sanitation program. This role ensures that all equipment, trailers, facilities, and work areas are cleaned and sanitized in accordance with regulatory requirements and company food safety standards. The Supervisor will oversee the harvest trailer sanitation process, supervise sanitation team members, verify cleaning effectiveness through ATP testing, and support broader daily sanitation tasks such as sanitation of floors, drains, exterior areas, and shared equipment. This role plays a critical part in preventing contamination during harvest operations and maintaining a safe, sanitary working environment in the field.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Key Responsibilities:
Harvest Trailer Sanitation Program:
- Supervise and coordinate the sanitation of harvest trailers via the Washout and “Cruz Thru” process.
- Verify sanitizer concentration levels (100–200ppm Sodium Hypochlorite) and ensure proper chemical use.
- Conduct ATP swab testing and log results for each sanitized trailer.
- Review and reconcile Cruz Thru logs against Washout reports to ensure trailer tracking accuracy.
- Coordinate shuttle driver trailer flow and staging for post-sanitation storage.
- Maintain and order inventory for trailer sanitation supplies, such as chemicals, totes, and nozzles.
- Implement improvements such as QR code tracking and system updates.
General Sanitation Operations:
- Lead daily sanitation tasks outside of trailer cleaning, including floor and drain sanitation, wash down of processing areas, high-touch surface sanitation, and equipment cleaning.
- Ensure sanitation team follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines during all cleaning tasks.
- Support sanitation for infrastructure such as docks, bins, containers, walls, and doors as part of routine cleaning rotations.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Production, Maintenance) to schedule sanitation tasks with minimal disruption.
- Monitor the effectiveness of general cleaning activities and complete visual inspections.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and handling of sanitation chemicals across all areas.
- Assist in developing and maintaining sanitation schedules and checklists for all areas under responsibility.
Leadership & Documentation:
- Supervise and schedule sanitation employees, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts and priority areas.
- Train and mentor team members in safe and effective cleaning practices.
- Maintain accurate records of all sanitation activities, inspections, chemical concentrations, and ATP results.
- Communicate sanitation performance, gaps, and corrective actions to Quality and Operations leadership.
- Support compliance with FDA, USDA, FSMA, and internal food safety and sanitation policies.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of sanitation procedures and chemical safety (especially Sodium Hypochlorite usage).
- Familiarity with ATP swabbing and verification methods.
- Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping.
- Ability to lead and manage small teams effectively.
- Competency in Microsoft Office and/or company-specific applications (e.g., Bolthouse Apps).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School/GED or two years of experience in related field and/or training or combination of both education and experience.
- Knowledge of GAP, GMP, HACCP, and FSMA Produce Safety Rule.
- Candidates must have a verifiable history of safe vehicle operation and meet company standards for driving eligibility. This includes maintaining a clean driving record, which will be verified through a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years in Quality Assurance in the fresh produce or food-processing environment
- HACCP, SQF and Better Process Control School training certificates desired
- 2+ years of experience in a sanitation or food safety role within agricultural or fresh produce operations
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a strong plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Environmental exposure - cold/wet conditions (40 °Fahrenheit or below).
- Environmental exposure – hot/humid conditions (90 °Fahrenheit or below).
- Material exposure – moving mechanical parts
- Use of protective clothing and sanitation chemicals. (Will this person need a respirator mask)
- Occasional exposure to environmental factors such as fumes, airborne particles and vibrations.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 55 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, using 3-point contact on a regular basis
- Ability to stoop, crouch, and kneel on a regular basis
HOURS & WORKDAYS:
Shift 2nd – 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM; Overtime, Weekends, and Holidays may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may be mandatory depending on department/business needs as well.
