Investigates and adjusts workers' compensation and/or tort and liability claims against the Department. Evaluates the compensability and liability of cases. Makes independent decisions on claims and exercises settlement authority. Work requires contact with Department employees, medical providers and law enforcement personnel.
Essential Duties:
Loss Control Representative IV:
- Performs analysis of factual and legal situations
- Recommends risk avoidance, prevention, reduction and safety assessment measures to senior managers for the Department's risk management programs.
- Conducts and/or attends safety meetings to answer questions from employees and managers regarding safety and workers compensation benefits
- Conducts evaluations and completes written reports as needed and/or requested.
- Contacts injured employees to explain medical and compensation benefits.
- Informs medical providers of employees' workers compensation benefits and ensures employees receive proper medical attention.
- Investigates workers compensation and/or tort/liability claims.
- Makes presentations at district safety meetings and new employee orientation on specific topics.
- May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
- Negotiates settlement of claims.
- Performs and completes special projects related to risk management as needed and/or requested.
- Prepares and submits written reports of activities; maintains records and files.
- Represents the Department at claim conferences and hearings and evaluates the compensability of cases.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Loss Control Representative V:
All the Above and:
- Travels to conduct on-site investigations of claims: obtains statements, interviews witnesses and law enforcement personnel, takes photographs and performs related tasks to document claims; recommends appropriate action.

Minimum Qualifications:
Loss Control Representative IV and V
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Insurance or related field.
- Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree on a year-per-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
- 5 years claims adjusting.
- Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent.
- Related graduate-level education may be substituted for experience on a year-per-year basis.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must have a Texas Insurance Adjuster license in at least one type:

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
