We are seeking a passionate and proactive Workplace Skills Instructor to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in developing the essential soft skills required for employment beyond college. This role focuses on preparing learners for the world of work by enhancing their communication, confidence, teamwork, adaptability, and professionalism.

The instructor will work closely with job coaches, curriculum staff, employers, and external agencies to ensure that students are workplace-ready and equipped with the knowledge and behaviours to succeed in diverse employment settings.

For a 39-week (term time only) role, an FTE salary range of £27,186.12 - £29,225.56 is appropriate, aligning with roles that require professional experience, coaching capability, and SEN specialism.
Based on our hours of 36 hours per week and working 39 weeks + Holiday would equate to an actual salary of  £24,416.64 - £26,248.32

Key Responsibilities

1. Deliver tailored sessions on soft skills including: 
  • Communication and active listening 
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills 
  • Time management and organisation 
  • Problem-solving and resilience 
  • Confidence and self-advocacy 
  • Professional behaviour and workplace etiquette 
2. Teach practical employment skills such as: 
  • CV writing, job searching and applications 
  • Interview preparation and techniques 
  • Understanding employment rights and responsibilities 
3. Promote student reflection and progress through: 
  • One-to-one coaching and feedback 
  • Monitoring and reviewing work placement logs 
  • Goal setting and employability action plans 
4. Work collaboratively with: 
  • Job Coaches to support work experience placements 
  • Employers and placement providers to align expectations 
  • Curriculum teams to integrate employability into learning 
5. Support students to develop into future employees, embedding workplace values and realistic employment aspirations 

6. Contribute to employer engagement and maintain awareness of: 
  • Current job market trends 
  • Sector-specific requirements and opportunities 
  • The difference between Micro, SME, and Large (Macro) Employers 
7. Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to reviews and reporting 
8. Role model and promote a collaborative, inclusive and professional environment 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:
Proven experience working with SEN learners, preferably in an instructional or teaching role
Strong understanding of soft skills development and their impact on employment
Experience coaching or mentoring young people
Up-to-date knowledge of the employment landscape and different types of employers (Micro, SME, Macro)
Ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders
Excellent communication, organisation, and reflective skills
Commitment to inclusive education and the belief that all learners can succeed

Desirable:
Relevant qualifications in coaching, instruction, careers guidance or youth work 
Experience in delivering work-related learning or employability programmes 
Familiarity with supported internships or work experience models for SEN learners
