General Description
Candidate will have experience in metal machining and have a working knowledge of metal turning/milling/shaping and grinding processes. Has the ability to effectively use precision measurement instruments to determine tolerances and uses that knowledge to perform complex mechanical inspections, regularly assists others in complex inspections. Has ability to act as lead responsible for supervisory actions in Inspection area(s).
Duties
- Inspect and adjust completed assemblies to ensure specifications, tolerances and customer requirements are met.
- Read blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions to determine proper assembly sequences and has the ability to identify and suggest process improvements.
- Select the correct tool needed to do the job, regularly makes decisions on tooling requirement for specific tasks. Monitors the assembly process and actively evaluates materials, process and environment and uses sound judgment to detect potential problems.
- Uses mathematics to define or solve complex mechanical assembly problems.
- Read complex drawings and interpret per ANSI/ASME Y 14.5
- Interpret DoD and customer supplied standards or specifications for requirements in inspection of plating and paint.
- Makes decisions on assembly rework using experience, training and significant judgment.
- Use advanced mathematics to solve problems and assists other in proper use of mathematics in problem solving.
- Produce product from engineering drawing, product specifications and work instructions and uses experience, training and judgment in suggesting proper tooling selections and process parameters.
- Manage work flow through inspection areas. Must be able to process items for inspection to production schedule.
- Act as personnel liaison between quality management and inspection areas.
- Act as back-up for quality management responsibilities as assigned.
- Support source inspections (customer & DCMA) as required.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. Trade school is desirable.
- 10+ years mechanical assembly and metal machining experience required.
- The candidate will have good dexterity and possess the ability to assemble complex mechanical assemblies.
- Must be proficient in the use of standard measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges. Must also be able to operate a coordinate measuring machining (CMM).
- Strong knowledge in creating programming for complex parts for a coordinate measuring machine (CMM/Calypso). Also working knowledge of FARO/Polyworks operations
- Self-starter, little or no immediate supervision required.
- Must be capable of inspecting mechanical assemblies using precision measurement tools and make complex accept/reject decisions.
- Has the ability to select the right tool for the job.
- Excellent training and interpersonal skills and interfaces effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Extensive knowledge of raw materials used in the metal fabrication industry, working knowledge of machining equipment and principles.
- Data driven and uses data as a problem solving tool.
- Ability to inspect work area and tools for any potential safety hazards prior to beginning operations.
- Weld inspection background is desirable.
- Possess basic computer skills using Microsoft Office.
