Title: Route Supervisor 

FLSA Status: Exempt  

Reports To: Operations Manager 

Pay Range: $95,000-$132,000/year

We are seeking a successful Route Supervisor to join our team to assist our organization in providing a successful work environment where our employees can be safe, thrive and give their personal best each day. This position is expected to work out of our office at 625 Charles St. in San Jose and some job-related travel may be required. 


Position Summary: 

Through the guidance and direction of the Operation Manager, the Route Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operation of drivers as well as dispatching and routing tasks to ensure effective and efficient servicing of customers while meeting company expectations. The Route Supervisor maintains a safe and orderly workplace and supervises team members to ensure timeliness and accuracy in records pertaining to collection and disposal services offered. 



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises drivers and support staff (20-25 staff members), indirectly supports 100+ staff members.
  • Distributes work orders for cart deliveries, tracks cart/bin inventory and facilitates roll outs.
  • Investigates and reports work related incidents including auto, worker’s compensation, and property damage.
  • Assign routes to ensure all routes are covered.
  • Communicates and enforces Company policies and procedures as well as all safety programs.
  • Resolves customer issues/complaints.
  • Provides updates to co-workers or managers regarding daily operations.
  • Clean-ups hydraulic spills.
  • Monitors field work to ensure quality of work performance, productivity, safety, and that equipment is being used as it should be.
  • Conducts progressive disciplinary action as needed as well as performance reviews of direct reports.
  • Conduct inspections, OBA’s, audits and safety meetings.
  • Utilizes Tower as needed to view, update and process account changes.
  • Collaborates with operations manager and business leaders to understand management objectives and to identify and implement relevant data, policy, and metrics.
  • Provide administrative support to the operations manager and general manager.
  • Reviews safety parameters and requirements with operations manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of customers, city officials as well as management.
  • Ability to work well with other employees in a team environment and communicate to ensure safety.
  • Ability to investigate accident and traffic reports to determine root cause.
  • Must be able to learn specific company software and be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to obtain certification for Reasonable Suspicion and First Aid.
  • Ability to operate collection vehicles and maintain a valid CDL.
  • Familiarity with D.O.T. regulations.
  • Strong project management and accountability.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, interpersonal and technical support skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude towards team members and customers.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with exceptional conflict resolution.
  • Proven ability to research, handle and resolve complex assignments with good judgment, initiative and efficiency.

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (preferably business) from an accredited university is preferred. 
  • Current and valid driver’s license (Class C), (Class A or B license preferred)
  • Acceptable driving record 
  • Experience working in and knowledge of the waste or recycling industry.
  • Experience in a supervisory/managerial role
  • Experience with proactive problem solving and proficiency in analytical and organizational skills

 

Language Skill:

  • Proficient in English (both verbally and in writing) is required.
  • Familiarity with Spanish (both verbally and in writing) is considered highly favorable. 

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to physically push, pull and lift objects up to 45 lbs.
  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk in an office environment for 6-10 hours a day.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time through different cities in California.
  • Constant bending and twisting.
  • Frequent sitting and semi-frequent walking.
  •  Infrequent climbing in and out of equipment and push/pull bins and/or carts.

 

Work Environment:

Typical work week is Monday through Friday early mornings; however, GreenWaste operates up to 7 days per week so this position may require hours beyond Monday through Friday shift. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and odors/smells. Ability to work in setting with frequent changes in equipment, start/end time, service city/town and routes based on the operational needs for the day and or week. Schedules can vary including early start times and evening start times
