Job Title: Community Assistant

Reports To: Assistant Director of Leasing and Marketing 

Location: Lumina Communities at Duquesne University

Compensation: $10.50/hour   

Hours of Employment: Up to 20 hours per week. 

FLSA Status: Student Non-Exempt   

 

Summary 

Lumina Communities, located on the campus of Duquesne University located in Pittsburgh, PA are managed by Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM). COCM is responsible for all aspects of operational management for Brottier Hall, St. Martin Hall, and McGinley Hall. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Leasing and Marketing, the Community Assistants are responsible for customer service and administrative functions for the students and prospective students to Lumina Communities.   

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities   

  • Assisting with all marketing and promotional events, including but not limited to leading Building Tours, Open House Events, and Resident Appreciation Days.
  • Staffing the Main Office Desk, primarily responsible for taking all phone calls and emails.
  • Creating communications such as monthly newsletters, social media, and flyers
  • Assisting with data entry
  • Providing customer service and assistance to all residents, visitors, and community members through personal and electronic interaction. 
  • Displaying professionalism, initiative, and flexibility when interacting with guests, housing staff, and all University personnel. 
  • Enforcing policies / procedures of the residence halls and the university (including campus, state and federal regulations).
  • Adhering to employment schedule and dress code.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in all matters concerning student/staff discipline and any other matters.
  • Attending all staff meetings and training programs and participate in on-going as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) 
  • Current student at a post-secondary institution  
  • Demonstrate proficiency in verbal and written communication. 
  • Possess strong customer service skills. 
  • Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.   
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment including computer, photocopier, and telephone. Basic typing and filing skills. 

Time Commitment   

Community Desk assistants can work up to 20 hours per week in part-time student work. Office hours are Monday–Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm. In addition, work may be available during academic breaks and nights/weekends. Community Assistants may need to return early or leave late from breaks in order to complete trainings.
