Job Summary: The Med Surg
Registered Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the unit, managing both clinical and administrative aspects of patient care. They are responsible for leading and mentoring nursing staff, ensuring high-quality patient care, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Hiring, training, and mentoring nursing staff, creating work schedules, and managing performance. Also, handling disciplinary actions and staff development.
- Understands licensure and continuing education requirements in their respective areas of responsibility.
- Understands and effectively enforces Human Resource policies and procedures. Understands and complies with employment laws (EEO, FMLA, ADA, etc). Interviews and selects competent and qualified staff.
- Provides education opportunities through orientation, in-service programs, and employee evaluations.
- Develops employees by supporting continuous learning and providing competency assessments and development opportunities.
- Assists clinically on the unit when needed due to staffing shortage or during emergency situations when the patient needs exceed that of the nursing services.
- Assumes all duties of RN job role when providing direct patient care.
- Ensuring safe and effective patient care, monitoring patient outcomes, and addressing any clinical issues or emergencies that arise.
- Develops processes to assess, implement plans, and evaluate nursing care, including assessments, documentation, patient/family education and discharge planning.
- Overseeing daily operations, including resource allocation, equipment maintenance, and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Uses basic computer functions including Word processing, spreadsheet applications, and email.
- Managing the department’s budget, controlling expenses, and contributing to financial planning.
- Demonstrates knowledge of healthcare reimbursement issues. Understands managed care and its impact on their area(s) of responsibility and the organization as a whole.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives, analyzing data, developing goals that align with the facilities mission, vision and values, and implementing changes to improve patient care and departmental efficiency.
- Demonstrates appreciation for individual and/or team efforts in achieving or exceeding performance goals.
- Maintaining effective communication with staff, physicians, other hospital departments, and external stakeholders. Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care and departmental efficiency.
- Participating in emergency preparedness planning and ensuring the department is prepared to respond to various emergency situations.
- Developing, reviewing, and updating departmental policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and organizational priorities. Oversees and monitors adherence to policies and procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and standards.
- Performs all other job-related duties as requested.
Education/Qualification Requirements:
- Current RN License in the State of Georgia.
- Current BLS certification. (Must obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Current CPI certification. (Must obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Current ACLS certification. (Must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Current PALS certification. (Must obtain within 6 months of hire).
Experience:
- Previous experience as a Registered Nurse is required.
- Previous clinical leadership experience is preferred but not required.
