The pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical services in accordance with policies and standard operating procedures set by the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee and with the constraints of the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy Act. The pharmacist performs duties and is responsible for compounding and dispensing medicaments, orders, receive and store pharmaceutical supplies: maintain drug utilization records, consult with health care professionals (providers/ancillary) and analyzes patient drug profiles.

  • The staff pharmacist will work under the direct supervision of the Center’s Pharmacist-in-Charge and will assist the in the daily operations of the Pharmacy location where they are scheduled to work/   
  • The staff pharmacist will adhere to all policies and procedures that are in place currently or subsequently enacted following their starting date of employment that are established by Rural Health Services, Inc. and will also adhere and follow all laws/policies/procedures that are established by any South Carolina or Federal agency that has the ability to regulate the practice of pharmacy.    
  • This staff pharmacist will be assigned to a primary pharmacy location to work at to fulfill the hours that are dedicated to work as the staff pharmacist within the Center; however, from time to time it may be necessary for the employee to work at another pharmacy location owned and operated by the Center to help cover pharmacy operations in the event of planned or unplanned absences of another staff pharmacist.  
  • One staff pharmacist that is assigned to each pharmacy location owned and operated by the Center will be named that pharmacy location’s Pharmacist-in-Charge as required by the South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy.    

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are the following, but this list should not be considered all-inclusive due to the evolving needs of providing superior care to patients that utilize the pharmacy services of RHS:  

 

  • Having excellent communication and managerial skills to work professionally and amicably with patients/patient representatives and fellow employees while performing the duties of being the staff pharmacist to achieve desired results.
  • Being computer literate and having the ability to learn software programs that are essential in performing the duties of being the staff pharmacist will include but not be limited to the pharmacy software system and the Center’s Electronic Medical Record.  
  • Being able to execute the duties required of being a staff pharmacist which include performing all duties at prescription drop off, production, verification, drive thru and pick-up.
  • Directing staff appropriately and conducting activities during the Center’s fiscal year which supports the business model of the pharmacy to meet the goals of Center.       
  • Being able to maintain patient confidentiality always.
  • Participating in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and continuing education activities as necessary to be able to further improve being a pharmacist or learning new ways the Center wishes the staff pharmacist to expand its offerings of pharmacy services to patients.  


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following direct reports who may work with a staff pharmacist at any pharmacy owned and operated by the Center:  

  • Registered Pharmacy Technicians
  • State Certified Pharmacy Technicians
  • 340B Pharmacy specialist

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A degree of Bachelor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy is required.
  • A valid SC Pharmacist license
