JOB SUMMARY:

The Base Area Services Department is a fun and exciting way to join the on-mountain ski industry and the Monarch family.  This department is an upbeat, active, and outdoor department that provides opportunities to earn and play in the mountains.  Enjoy the on-mountain working environment then the perks of your complimentary Monarch Mountain Season Pass. The Base Services Supervisor assists the Manager in overseeing employees in the overall operations of the Base Services department which attends the parking lot(s), keeps the base area around the buildings neat and accessible, assists with events…etc.   This is a customer service, skiing/driving position.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Be an effective leader within the guidelines of department and company policies, procedures and values, in fulfillment of Monarch’s mission statement to “provide our guests with a quality, personalized mountain experience.”
  • Ensure all forms, tracking, verifications and necessary documenting are executed and accurately completed in a timely manner.   This includes, though not limited to requests, training, payroll, time-keeping, fiscal responsibilities, disciplinary actions...etc.
  • Assist in the hiring of department A-Team employees.
  • Schedule department staff for efficient coverage of department functions based on projected skier budget and snow conditions.   Adjust to actual requirements as appropriate.
  • Perform initial and ongoing training of departmental staff, and assist the manager in overseeing staff in daily and seasonal operations.
  • Provide timely employee feedback and conduct qualitative performance reviews of department staff on a regular basis.  
  • Identify and train personnel for opportunities within the department for the purpose of retaining valuable and interested employees, and the filling of key positions in the event of a departure.
  • Operate within budgetary guidelines; contribute to departmental budget proposals.
  • Prepare and oversee department personnel in the event of an emergency.
  • Drive guests and employee shuttles when necessary, providing information and a great attitude for our guests.
  • Assist in the execution of special events.
  • Assist with parking lot duties as needed including giving breaks to parking lot personnel, parking lot set-up and tear down, providing parking lot assistance such as jump-starting, unlocking cars, tows, gas, air, etc. Communicate with Slope Maintenance when vehicles require being left overnight. 
  • Prepare base area for daily operations, ensure snow & ice is removed from access areas around the lodge & check for and mitigate potentially hazardous areas or situations.
  • Operate the Bobcat with bucket or snow blower to remove snow from parking lots, loading dock, lesson and rental center, and around base area.
  • Perform the duties of Base Services staff when necessary.
  • Offer input for departmental capital requests.
  • Work in conjunction with other departments as part of the Monarch team.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of training materials, manuals, checklists and other documents necessary for the success of the department.
  • Prepare and assist in the oversight of department personnel in the event of an emergency, as instructed by your supervisor.
  • Provide professional solutions and courteous assistance in problem-solving for both guests and employees.  
  • Monitor and maintain the inventory and condition of department supplies, properties and facilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Age: 21
  • Legal citizen of the United States or possess other proper work permit authentication.
  • A valid driver’s license and good, company insurable driving record required.
  • High School diploma or GED is required; a college degree is preferred. 
  • Ski/ride at an intermediate level.
  • Minimum one year Base Area Services experience required.
  • Some supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must be able to stop, turn, change directions suddenly, adapt to uneven, varying intermediate terrain, and move in both directions on skis or snowboard carrying up to 90 lbs.
  • Requires driving vehicles, including passenger vans, the bobcat and snowmobiles.
  • Requires pushing/lifting up to 90lbs, as in shoveling snow, on a daily basis.
  • Requires stretching, bending, grasping, reaching, working at high places up to 20’ off the ground (as in on the roof).
  • Requires working at high elevation (up to 12,000’), with extended exposure to adverse weather conditions, such as severe cold, heavy snowfall, rain, strong winds and intense sun.


JOB TYPE: Winter Seasonal, Full Time (Part Time in October)

  • Compensation: Proposed hiring rate starts at $22 (actual pay will be adjusted based on experience).
