POSITION OVERVIEW: (Pending board approval)

Title: Compliance Auditor

Reports To: Health Center Manager

Wage Range: $65,900-$80,500

Schedule: M-F; 8-5, or assigned

Status: Exempt

Summary: The Compliance Auditor is responsible for conducting internal audits and reviews to ensure the Health Center’s operations are in compliance with applicable federal, state, and Tribal laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role supports the ongoing effectiveness of the organization's compliance program, identifies areas of risk, and provides recommendations to enhance accountability, efficiency, and regulatory adherence—particularly in relation to Indian Health Service (IHS), HRSA, CMS, and HIPAA standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (will include, but not be limited to)

  •  Conduct routine and targeted internal audits of clinical, billing, financial, administrative, and operational processes.
  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and Tribal healthcare laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, CMS, IHS, HRSA, OSHA, Title 25).
  • Identify potential areas of vulnerability and risk; develop corrective action plans in coordination with department managers.
  • Work closely with the Health Center Manager to implement and refine internal audit plans and schedules.
  • Maintain detailed records of all audits, findings, follow-up activities, and compliance reports.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise audit findings and compliance summaries to leadership and Tribal governance as appropriate.
  • Support compliance with education and training efforts across departments.
  • Assist with the investigation of complaints or reports of potential compliance violations.
  • Stay current with changes in laws, regulations, and best practices relevant to Tribal healthcare and nonprofit organizations.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Accounting, Business, Compliance, or related field required.
  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or similar credential strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in healthcare auditing, compliance, or regulatory affairs.
  • Experience in Tribal health systems, Indian Health Service (IHS), or 638 programs preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare laws and regulations, including HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and HRSA standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods; climbing stairs and step-stools; stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, and reaching; pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 30 pounds; and raising objects overhead. The role also requires manual dexterity for operating computers and phones, as well as hearing, talking, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers are involved. The employee may be subject to outdoor environmental conditions such as heat and cold, and will be required to walk on uneven ground. The position also requires the ability to safely operate and drive a motor vehicle.
