Are you an experienced internal communications pro with a passion for supporting workers? The University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Human Resources (OHR) is seeking a talented Communications Specialist III to craft compelling narratives providing operational support for all departments within OHR, as we regularly communicate to Pitt’s thousands of amazing employees. Reporting to the Communications Manager, you’ll collaborate with staff throughout OHR to inform Pitt’s Faculty and Staff about their benefits and other employment info, as well as promoting Pitt employment, showcasing the University as a welcoming and engaged employer of choice.

Job Summary
Develops moderately complex web and print content and marketing. Acts as strategic contributor for communications team and creates diverse marketing materials for marketing team. Attends meetings designed for content planning and development. Ensures consistent messaging and maintains University brand and style.

Essential Functions 
•    Develop, execute, and assess strategic communication plans to raise awareness of OHR initiatives and engage employees.
•    Write and edit engaging, persuasive, and accurate content for various platforms including email, websites, newsletters, and social media.

•    Able to breakdown complex tasks with strong attention to detail, as well as critically analyze all provided communications and requests to determine risk of exposure to University, as well as audience appropriateness.
•    Proofread copy for spelling, grammar, usage, University brand and style, accessibility, relatability, clarity and tone.  
•    Translate complex benefits terminology into easily understandable language.
•    Work collaboratively and effectively with subject matter experts (SMEs), creative teams, and University departments to ensure high-quality and accurate content is delivered.
•    Modify messaging according to the target audience, communication goals, and communication channels employed.  
•    Conduct research and user surveys, analyze feedback, and continuously refine our communication strategies.
•    Participate in regular OHR Communications team meetings to stay informed of new projects.
•    Create and update designs for digital and print purposes using Adobe Creative Suite.
•    Develop and maintain forms using tools such as Acrobat and DocuSign, and website content using Drupal CMS.

Physical Effort 
Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, creative writing, or related field. • Prior experience in a communications role, preferably with internal communications experience. • Superior interpersonal, written, & verbal communication skills coupled with creative problem-solving abilities. • Experience in digital communications, analytics, and social media management. • The ability to simplify complex information & navigate changing demands with ease.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Work Arrangement Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
