The Opportunity
As a Research Investigator 1, you will design and implement large field experiments, including oversight of undergraduate and ASE employees, assisting lab members with aspects of bioinformatic analysis and providing training when necessary. You will optimize aspects of ongoing laboratory experiments to maximize inferences that can be made from genomic data, assisting with genomic data generation and aspects of laboratory workflow when necessary. You will also prepare manuscripts for publication based on bioinformatic analysis results, co-author peer-reviewed publications, attend workshops of interest, and present research findings at internal and external seminars and/or conferences.

Additional Information:
This is a full-time (100% FTE), temporary position expected to end on May 31, 2027. Renewal is dependent on program needs and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment. This position is overtime eligible.
This position works on-site on the WSU Vancouver campus.
Monthly Salary: $5,531 to $7,443 | Range 58, Steps A to M | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications
A Ph.D. degree in one of the physical, biological, social, behavioral, or health-related sciences.
OR A Master’s degree in one of the above fields and experience in experimental or analytical research in a public agency, public or private research corporation, non-profit research corporation, or university research center. Experience as a researcher or graduate research assistant will be credited only if performed equivalent to at least three years at the Research Analyst 3 level; or equivalent to one year at the Research Analyst 3 and one year at the Research Investigator levels.
Served as lead author on at least two (2) peer reviewed publications in ecology, evolution, or genetics.
Strong writing and organizational abilities.
Experience successfully mentoring junior researchers.
Experience with data analysis and visualization in R for publication.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in evolutionary genomics.
Knowledge of literature and areas of active research in evolutionary genomics.
Experience writing grants for external funding.
Experience preparing publications for broad scientific journals.
