GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the accounting department. The Accounting Manager will specifically be responsible for overseeing Federal, State, and Local tax filings, general ledger account reconciliations (intercompany), sales and use tax filings, monthly benefits (health, 401K) reporting, and other accounting activities that may be assigned. The Accounting Manager will report to the Controller and will have contact with the CFO as well as company leadership.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

- Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
- Supports budget and forecasting activities.
- Addresses tight monthly deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including journal entry and account reconciliation processes (especially intercompany transactions and reconciliations), assisting in financial reporting both internally (health, 401K) and externally (e.g., Payroll, IRS).
- Lead and manage the VSI Group Accounting ERP integrations for Tax Reporting & Compliance.
- Manage tax filings (federal, state, local) with help from outside advisors, to include overseeing sales and use tax reporting across all company locations. Stay up to date on tax law changes.
- Works with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
- Streamline and document accounting processes to ensure the VSI group reporting is complete, accurate, and timely. Includes documenting and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Provides training to new and existing staff as needed.
- Handles personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
- Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
- Responsible for supervising the accounting procedures of the company.
- Identify best practices and ensure policy and procedure standardization across all VSI Group companies.
- Advises management on matters of fiscal procedure and importance for the organization.
- Update and enhance Accounting and Compliance policies and procedures.
- Works with confidential data, which, if disclosed, might have significant internal or external effect.
- Establishes and maintains systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhances the company's value.
- Responds to the CFO as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate operational needs.
- Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
- Provides procedural training to newly hired team members, as needed or required.
- Represents VSI in a professional manner at all times.
- Excellent attendance and dependability is an essential requirement of this job and have the ability to work overtime as needed/required.
- Responsible for maintaining good-housekeeping habits by keeping work areas clean and organized during work shift.
- Establishes and maintains positive work relationships with co-workers, management, customers, and vendors/suppliers to create value and opportunity for VSI growth.
- Based on business needs, may be required to travel periodically.
- Maintain a professional demeanor, appearance and conduct at all times.
- Attends mandatory staff meetings and participates in group discussions.
- Performs other job-related job tasks, work assignments and/or special projects as directed/assigned by Management.
QUALIFICATIONS
The employee must have demonstrated experience and/or education as outlined below in order to satisfactorily perform the essential job duties and responsibilities. Qualifications may include, but are not limited, to:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance;
- Seven (7) or more years of work experience in accounting management functions and activities; or
- Any combination of experience, education, and training that will provide the level of knowledge, skills, and ability required for the job.
- Proactive team building, including the ability to work individually and as a team member.
- Proficient PC skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, SMART devices, and Company programs/applications).
- Proficient math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, common fractions and decimals).
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written communications.
- Proficient skills in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
- Read, analyze and interpret general business procedures, work instructions, training materials, professional, etc.
- Attention to detail.

- This position may require employee to operate Company provided vehicle or their own personal vehicle to conduct work-related business and therefore requires a valid drivers license, clean DMV record and current vehicle registration.
