About the Department
The Recreation Coordinator – AOA & Adaptive Recreation creates lifelong memories and a healthier community for all to enjoy in Chaska with an emphasis on providing exceptional recreation programs for Active Older Adults (AOA) and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, this role will assist in facility operations for The Lodge to meet the needs and interests of the community.
Position Duties
1. Programming and Evaluation
- Develops, promotes and implements programs for Active Older Adults (AOA) and individuals with disabilities, focusing on daily activities and enrichment opportunities such as trips/tours, special events, sports, art, and more.
- Partners with contracted instructors, community organizations, school district and various city departments to provide a variety of health and wellness opportunities for AOA and adaptive program participants.
- Reviews and evaluates programs using participant surveys and other tools to measure performance and identify areas of improvement.
- Assists Recreation Supervisors and Recreation Manager with direct, hands-on support in a variety of programs and events.
- Addresses inquiries, resolves issues efficiently, and communicates program and facility information to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Remains actively visible and engaged with staff and patrons during programming and facility hours of operation.
- Performs a variety of support services for The Lodge facility such as opening and closing procedures, physical set up and take down (tables/chairs), and cleaning.
- Partners with Facility Maintenance and Guest Services staff to assist with overseeing facility operations and equipment at The Lodge.
- Develop and lead training for staff members within the Parks & Recreation department to ensure that adaptive recreation and inclusion needs are being met.
- Assists with hiring, training, scheduling and supervising part-time employees to ensure high performance within our AOA and adaptive programs.
- Provides leadership and support in the absence of a direct supervisor.
- Assists with conducting performance reviews, goal setting, and provides constructive feedback to part-time staff, as needed.
- Assists the Recreation Supervisor by providing input and monitoring the AOA & Adaptive program budget.
- Purchases supplies and equipment and processes expenditures in accordance with the City’s accounting procedures.
- Utilizes department software to build programs, process payments and refunds, and generate reports.
- Assists in creating marketing materials for programs and events and ensures distribution to appropriate audiences including social media.
- Works closely with the Parks and Recreation team to ensure an integrated experience for customers.
- Collaborates closely with the Parks and Recreation staff f to create a positive and energetic work environment.
- Strives for excellence by participating in ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Experience, Licenses, Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field with 1 year of related experience OR
- Associate’s degree with 3 years of related experience
- Experience working with older adults or individuals with disabilities preferred
- Therapeutic Recreation Certification preferred
- Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire
Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Willingness and ability for flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, point-of-sale systems, registration software, internet navigation, or other relevant technologies.
- Ability to work independently and to prioritize work tasks.
- Knowledge of recreational programming, facility operations, and customer service principles.
- Experience working with the public and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and remain calm in difficult situations.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong willingness to learn.
- Dedicated to patron safety and mission of the City of Chaska.
- Represent the City of Chaska in a professional and positive manner at all times.
