Description
The Account Manager is the company’s primary contact with customers and prospects. He or she is responsible for providing sales coverage and developing the best possible market penetration for all the group’s products—including hydraulics, pneumatics, and motion control solutions—within his or her account list or geographic territory. He or she initiates and maintains continuing sales relationships with accounts, calling on them in a regular and consistent manner. The Account Manager will grow territory sales volume, secure gross margin expectations, meet customer expectations, and achieve budgets and goals.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage all customer relationships, serving as the primary customer contact and working cohesively with factory representatives, core customers, and vendors.
- Maintain and increase the sales volume of assigned accounts or territories and aggressively seek new business by formulating and following planned sales strategies and company marketing programs to ensure optimum profitable sales penetration for hydraulics, pneumatics, and motion control products.
- Continuously improve technical knowledge of fluid power technology—including hydraulic systems, pneumatic components, and motion control solutions—to identify new uses, applications, and integration opportunities for current and prospective customers.
- Understand and follow the guidelines of care, custody, and control as they relate to customer hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control equipment in the field.
- Assist present and prospective customers in adapting hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control products to their own requirements and specifications.
- Address and resolve customer complaints related to hydraulics, pneumatics, and motion control products in accordance with company policy, and advise the group manager promptly of any situations beyond his or her scope of authority.
- Assist in developing sales forecasts and account for territory potentials, seeking methods, processes, and techniques to increase market share for hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control product lines.
- Maintain up-to-date customer records and other sales-related documentation in accordance with company instructions; proactively participate in account analysis and competitor profiling for hydraulics, pneumatics, and motion control markets.
- Prepare and submit call and expense reports as required.
- Submit any special reports or plans regarding account lists or territory, competitive conditions, new hydraulic/pneumatic/motion control products, etc., taking accountability for their timeliness and accuracy.
- Attend and actively participate in sales meetings, technical training programs, and other events related to hydraulics, pneumatics, and motion control.
- Assist in training associates and customers on technical applications of hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control products.
- Provide timely information to customers on new and current hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control products, back orders, general order status, current pricing structures, and company policy changes.
- Keep promises, maintain appointments, and exercise courtesy at all times.
- Comply with all company policies, instructions, and directives to fulfill company objectives and maximize profitable sales in hydraulics, pneumatics, and motion control markets.
- Actively work with company suppliers of hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control products, and maintain & grow excellent relationships with their salespeople.
- Develop accurate knowledge of the group’s hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control products such that he or she is considered an expert in their application and use.
- Participate in team meetings with all service center associates.
- Operate in compliance with all national, state, and local laws.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, presenting yourself with sincerity, empathy, and high ethics.
- Have an entrepreneurial mindset and strong work ethic.
- Cultivate a strong working knowledge of the company’s business software, formal and informal company practices, and hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control product lines.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with ability and willingness to attain technical and professional certifications related to hydraulics, pneumatics, and motion control.
- Be a leader in team environments—providing excellent motivation and training for internal associates and external customers.
- Ability to understand and resolve complex technical problems related to hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control products for customers, associates, and vendors.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and similar software; overall computer aptitude.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, technical schooling, or equivalent experience.
- 1-3 years of previous account management experience, preferably in hydraulics, pneumatics, or motion control products.
Physical Requirements:
- Majority of work is completed in the field, but potential for office work to be completed in the evening or on weekends.
- Occasional work in office and warehouse as backup when operations are needed.
- Regional and occasional out-of-state travel for customer visits and factory training programs (few overnights).
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Have a vehicle that is well-kept and represents yourself & our company well.
Other Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
Starting salary: $75,000 annually. After initial period: $50,000 base + 20% commission.
