The Valley Park School District is seeking a talented educator for a long-term substitute teaching assignment as an Elementary School Teacher beginning in late November 2025.
Description: Valley Park Elementary School seeks a highly-qualified, student-centered, Long-Term Substitute Elementary Teacher. The Successful Candidate:
- Is knowledgeable about the developmental needs of young learners and will be able to present the curriculum using a personalized, student-centered approach.
- Demonstrates appropriate long and short-term preparation for classroom instruction.
- Holds high expectations for all students and sees themselves as facilitators of student learning.
- Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings.
- Assesses student progress, provides students and parents with specific feedback, and uses the results to adjust instruction as needed.
- Provides opportunities for academic support and challenge.
- Takes responsibility for teaching the District curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents.
- Demonstrates an understanding of how knowledge in their subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences.
- Keep abreast of current developments in their field and continue to deepen their understanding of the discipline(s).
- Establishes and maintains a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and follow lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and class.
- Ensure instruction aligns with engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Communicate regularly with parents.
- Establish and maintain standards of behavior to achieve a safe and effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare grade reports as needed.
- Identifies student needs, makes appropriate referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans.
- Creates an environment for learning through functional and visually appealing displays, interest centers, and exhibits showcasing students’ work.
- Other duties as assigned by the building administration.

Certification: Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate--REQUIRED
Valid teaching certificate in the State of Missouri__RPREFERRED
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree__PREFERRED
Compensation: $190.00/day
Benefits: Not Eligible
