The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts®) develops the next generation of diverse, artistically promising scholar-artists through intensive pre-professional training in the arts, combined with a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. Over 2,500 hours of tuition-free, pre-professional arts training is provided to every scholar-artist from freshman year to graduation. Program Overview:
ChiArts will provide EL summer tutoring for multilingual students who continue to demonstrate limited English proficiency, per their current ACCESS composite scores. Targeted participants have ACCESS Proficiency level scores of 3 or less in the reading and writing domains. The curriculum will include the use of workbooks and leveled readers that focus on reading comprehension and written expression. Students will receive Native Language and ESL support to bridge the acquisition of the English language and is only being offered to ChiArts multilingual students. This summer tutorial program will run for two weeks, four days per week, from June 16, 2025, through June 26, 2025.
Job Summary:
The Multilingual Learner Summer Tutorial Program Instructor will deliver a curriculum designed to increase English language acquisition for Multilingual Learners enrolled at ChiArts, with an emphasis on increased proficiency in the reading and writing language domains. Tutorial program instructors will use this targeted focus to help increase students' access to the general curriculum as well as significantly improve academic performance, especially as it pertains to understanding and using key vocabulary. The instructor will plan and facilitate engaging, individualized, data-driven activities designed to increase English language acquisition and accelerate overall achievement.
Qualifications
Multilingual Learner Summer Tutorial Program Instructor Schedule:
June 16th – July 26th, Monday-Thursday, 8:45 am-12:15 pm
Qualifications:
- Must be able to commit to working for the entire 2 weeks of the program, June 16 - June 26, Thursday, 8:45 am-2:15 pm
- Valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education, with the appropriate endorsement(s) for the role
- Experience in English as a Second Language (ESL) or Bilingual (BIL) curriculum facilitation and working with high school students
- Experience collecting and analyzing data to craft targeted, individualized ESL or BIL instructional plans
- Required to submit a curriculum map before the Institute begins
- Required to submit requested materials before the Institute begins
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and have outstanding communication skills
- Organization, leadership, and a dedication to working with youth are essential
- Commitment to sharing and learning through the arts and the ChiArts mission
- Excellent classroom management skills
Compensation:
Based on experience.
The instructor will be compensated for 4.5 hours/day.
