We are seeking an experienced and innovative Director of Retail to lead our retail operations and deliver premium shopping experience across our golf, tennis, and fitness outlets.
Job Description:
As the Director of Retail, you will oversee all retail operations at both club locations, including golf shops, tennis/fitness shops, and seasonal pop-ups. You will lead a team of retail associates and supervisors, develop merchandising strategies, manage inventory, and ensure exceptional service for our members and guests. This role combines operational expertise with creative vision to drive revenue, optimize inventory, and elevate the overall member experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Retail Strategy & Operations
- Develop and execute strategic retail plans aligned with the club brand, seasonality, and member preferences.
- Oversee daily operations of all retail outlets, ensuring seamless execution and service excellence.
- Establish and manage annual retail budgets, sales forecasts, and inventory goals.
- Implement and monitor POS systems and inventory management protocols.
Buying & Merchandising
- Curate and purchase premium apparel, accessories, and equipment across golf, tennis, spa, and lifestyle categories.
- Build strong vendor relationships and negotiate favorable terms and exclusive offerings.
- Maintain visual merchandising standards consistent with luxury Platinum club branding.
- Plan and execute seasonal resets and product launches to optimize sales.
Team Leadership & Development
- Hire, train, and manage a team of retail associates and supervisors.
- Foster is a customer-focused, service-driven culture aligned with the hospitality values of the club.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide mentorship and development opportunities.
Fiscal and Inventory Responsibilities
- Monitor cost of goods sold (COGS) and maintain gross margin goals.
- Analyze financial reports to inform buying, markdown, and inventory strategies.
- Manage inventory plans to reduce overstock and minimize shrinkage.
- Conduct physical inventory counts and reconcile with POS data.
- Coordinate purchasing cycles to align with seasonal demand and special events.
- Collaborate with accounting and finance teams to ensure accurate invoicing and reporting.
Guest Experience & Engagement
- Ensure retail staff deliver exceptional service and product knowledge.
- Collaborate with membership, marketing, and events teams on special events, trunk shows, and promotions.
- Address member and guest feedback promptly and professionally.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality, Merchandising, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 5–7+ years of senior-level retail management experience, ideally in luxury clubs, resorts, or hospitality environments.
- Strong knowledge of golf, tennis, and fitness retail trends, buying cycles, and vendor management.
- Proven track record of increasing retail revenue and optimizing inventory.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in retail software systems (e.g., Jonas, Golf Genius Proshop, Tee Commerce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of merchandise up to 30 lbs.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak seasons.
