Position Summary
The employee is responsible for all activities involving maintenance and operation of the ammonia refrigeration system. Other requirements may include HVAC, boiler systems, hot water generator, compressed air systems, building sprinkler systems and all supporting equipment.
Responsibilities
- Maintains the following equipment Ammonia refrigeration system. May include building heating and air conditioning equipment, boiler systems, hot water generator, compressed air systems, building sprinkler systems, and any other supporting equipment as directed by management.
- Perform PMs and repairs on compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, vessels, valves, and other machinery included in the ammonia refrigeration equipment.
- Work directly with all refrigeration contractors, electricians, and pipefitters when they are working on the ammonia refrigeration system to ensure that they are following all of the company safety policies, and meeting work standards.
- Perform duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager and/or Maintenance Supervisor or Engineering.
- Ensures continuous operation of all the facility utility systems and peripheral equipment to support the requirements of the production schedule and facility conditions. This requires proper coordination of all operations and maintenance utilities equipment.
- Coordinates both internal and external resources for maintenance of the facility.
- Assists in the recordkeeping and training requirements for all components of the Process Safety Management/Risk (PSM/RMP management plans to achieve compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Provides technical analysis and services to provide real-time data on the status of refrigeration and operational equipment.
- Assures the ammonia compressors are operating safely and efficiently
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment to maintain in good working condition.
- Troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and plumbing.
- Utilizes drawings, technical records, and vendor diagrams to complete Preventative Maintenance documents (PM’s) related to machine overhauls and repairs.
- Handles maintenance emergencies as required.
- Completes duties in accordance with quality assurance, Good Manufacturing Practices, safety and other company programs and procedures, and in accordance with government codes and regulations.
- Maintains clean, organized, and safe work area, including wiping and washing equipment and tools; sweeping and mopping floors; trash removal.
- Works to maintain and improve the quality, legality and safety of each product and the processes used in their manufacture.
- Direct daily work of refrigeration technicians, ensuring adherence to company policies, safety standards, and SOPs
- Train team members on safe equipment operation, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and company procedures.
- Support investigations of workplace injuries, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
- Promote general housekeeping and office organization to maintain a professional work environment.
- Other duties as defined.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical/refrigeration/utilities field in an industrial or manufacturing setting is preferred.
- 3 years of experience working with Ammonia refrigeration
- Working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration system is a must. GCAP Ammonia Technician Certification preferred.
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- PSM training preferred.
- Knowledge of equipment set-up, functions, operating procedures, and preventative maintenance techniques.
- Experience working in a maintenance department, preferably in an automated food processing plant.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Suite CMMS and L2L.
- Ability to adjust quickly to changing demands.
- Must be able to work with limited supervision.
- Must be able to cover other days and weekends as needed.
- Must be able to read and interpret P& ID drawings.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment. Frequent to maximum activities include: speaking, hearing, smelling, walking, standing, sitting, bend/stoop, kneel/squat, climbing, working with arms above the shoulders. Must be able to lift 5 – 60 lbs and have full use of two hands. This role requires ability to grasp, pinch, distinguish colors, clear close vision (under 20’’) and clear distance vision > 20’’). This job is exposed to greases, cleaning chemicals, food materials and CO2.
