Summary: The Aviation Business Development Lead builds market position by identifying, developing, and securing new aviation business opportunities. Operating in a seller-doer model, this role drives strategic growth, fosters strong client relationships, and aligns client needs with LJA’s aviation capabilities. Focused on the Northwest Mountain Region, the role works closely with engineering and planning teams, providing both business development leadership and technical support to deliver exceptional client outcomes.
General Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategies to expand LJA’s aviation presence with airport sponsors, FAA, and state agencies.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned with market trends, funding programs, and firm capabilities.
- Maintain knowledge of FAA AIP programs, state aviation grants, and other funding sources.
- Serve as a secondary client contact, building trusted relationships with airport managers, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
- Represent LJA at industry conferences, tradeshows, and events to strengthen brand presence and client connections.
- Conduct airport site visits to gather infrastructure data and identify client needs.
- Support proposal strategy, RFQ/SOQ preparation, and marketing initiatives in collaboration with the aviation marketing team.
- Assist with Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) development, grant management, and airfield inspections.
- Coordinate and maintain access to state-specific CIP platforms (e.g., Blackcat).
- Monitor and report on regional aviation market activity, funding opportunities, and competitor positioning.
- Ensure positive, branded client experiences across all outreach and industry events.
Required Education:
- BA or BS degree in business administration, marketing, aviation management, or related field.
Required Experience:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in aviation business development, marketing, or related field
- Proven track record of securing aviation-related contracts and managing client relationships
- Strong understanding of FAA and state aviation programs, funding processes, and airport operations
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; design/marketing software experience preferred (InDesign, Photoshop)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a team environment
