Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated Mid-Level or Senior Airport Planner to support and lead airport planning projects for our growing Aviation Services team. This role involves technical leadership, project coordination, and client interaction for airport master plans, ALP updates, land use compatibility studies, and capital improvement planning projects. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) requirements, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for shaping the future of airport infrastructure.

General Responsibilities:

Lead or support the development of comprehensive airport planning documents including:

  • Airport Master Plans
  • Airport Layout Plans (ALPs)
  • Capital Improvement Plans (CIPs)
  • Terminal and landside planning
  • Sustainability and resilience plans
  • Land use compatibility and obstruction analysis
  • Coordinate closely with airport sponsors, FAA representatives, engineers, environmental teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure deliverables meet FAA requirements including Advisory Circular 150/5070-6B, 150/5300 series, and ALP checklist guidance.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and client communications as either task lead or deputy PM, depending on project scope.
  • Contribute to stakeholder and public engagement activities including presentations, open houses, and planning charrettes.
  • Conduct data collection, forecasting, facility requirements analysis, and alternatives development in support of planning studies.
  • Assist in grant application support, including CIP development and FAA programming coordination.
  • Guide GIS technicians and CAD personnel in developing ALP sets and planning graphics.
  • Contribute to proposal development, business development strategies, and client interviews as needed.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, Airport Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban/Regional Planning, or a related field

Required Experience:

  • 5+years of relevant airport planning experience (7+ preferred for senior role)
  • Strong knowledge of FAA AIP funding process and airport planning ACs
  • Experience developing ALP sets, master plans, and technical reports
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and planning tools (e.g., ESRI GIS, AviPlan, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, or similar)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel as needed for client meetings and public engagement
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships

Preferred Experience:

  • AICP, AAAE accreditation, or private pilot license
  • Experience working for or with airports, FAA, or state aviation agencies
  • Familiarity with FAA Airports GIS, OE/AAA, and AGIS standards
  • Experience with environmental documentation (NEPA/CEQA) a plus
  • Business development or proposal writing experience for consulting projects
