Environmental Works, Inc. (EWI) is looking for a Staff Accountant to support general accounting and financial processes. You’ll be responsible for performing daily financial transactions and post them in the general ledger, ensure essential reconciliations on key accounts and check accuracy of financial documents. You will also carry out relevant administrative duties (e.g. responding to clients via email and handling invoices).  The Staff Accountant must have heightened attention to detail and accuracy and maintain confidentiality, integrity and ethics.

STAFF ACCOUNTANT | ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure accuracy of multiple company financial documents, including Balance Sheets, Income Statements and Statements of Cash Flow. 
  • Corp/Business Development/Administrative expense review. 
  • Maintain and update accounting records and files.
  • Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger (e.g. by assets, liabilities and expenses).
  • Reconcile bank statements.
  • Process daily cash receipts and apply to client invoices.
  • Maintain annual business license and permits.
  • Analyze transactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct month-end and year-end closures.
  • Prepare documents for audits.
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files, reconciling accounts. 
  • Ensure timely submission of recons and other monthly, quarterly and year-end close-related work. 
  • Partner with other departments to improve processes and efficiencies, identify issues and bring ideas for resolution. 

 

STAFF ACCOUNTANT | COMPETENCIES: 

  • Must possess a high level of confidentiality. 
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle a fast-paced work environment. 
  • Strong time management skills while working on multiple projects and deadlines. 
  • Self-starter with strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels.
  • Demonstrates a flexible, solutions-oriented mindset, prioritizing employee support and alignment with EWI culture.

 

STAFF ACCOUNTANT | REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Associate’s degree with a major in Accounting or Finance.
  • 2-3+ years of experience in an accounting or finance role.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software.
