The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse 1 position located Anchorage, AK.

What You Will Be Doing:

This is a non-permanent, non-benefited psychiatric provider position that will be flexibly scheduled, but typically less than 30 hours per week. Under the supervision of the Chief Mental Health Officer, this position will:

  • Care for the psychiatric needs of mentally ill incarcerated individuals located across the state in-person and via telehealth for rural locations.
  • Identify, assess, and respond appropriately to those with mental health disorders, symptoms associated with drug and alcohol use, and suicidal inmates.
  • Develop treatment plans up to and including prescribing psychotropic medications as appropriate in accordance with departmental standards, State licensing requirements and prescriptive authority by the Alaska Board of Nursing or the Alaska Medical Board.
  • Actively participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team including other psychiatric providers, psychiatric nurses, mental health clinicians and medical staff.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is based out of Anchorage but may be assigned to correctional centers depending on the needs of the department including but not limited to, the correctional centers located in Anchorage, Eagle River, Palmer, and Wasilla. This position will work closely with a team of correctional officers, mental health clinicians, medical staff, and other psychiatric treatment providers.

Position Duties

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.

Special Note:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
 
Some positions require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
 
Some positions require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees may be required to be screened annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Shift assignments and on-call availability may be required.

Some positions require application for and renewal of a DEA Registration Number with various designation(s) from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration allowing them to write prescriptions for a variety of controlled substances as a government health care provider. These positions will additionally register with the Alaska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.

In addition to maintaining Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensing requirements, some positions may require maintenance of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Basic Life Support, registration with a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, National Provider Identifier number, and others as appropriate.

EDUCATION 

If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview, at the discretion of the hiring manager.

PREA NOTIFICATION

The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:

Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS).  A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS.  DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice.  Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.

DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT
