Development Director

The Development Director is the leader responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive funding strategy to support Magic City Enterprises’ (MCE) fiscal health and continue its mission of supporting individuals with disabilities to live successfully. Additionally, the Development Director is responsible for managing MCE’s website, traditional and social media presence, and marketing materials.

Essential Functions

Fundraising

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including cultivating individual, corporate, and foundation donors and aligning with contemporary best practices and an understanding of the local, regional, and national fundraising landscape
  • Oversee cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate and individual donors and prospective donors, gift recognition, thank you letters, and acknowledgment materials for periodic appeal letters 
  • Oversee the collection and management of donor information and database, to include database entries for all gifts, pledges, notes, contacts, and other information 
  • Direct the growth, promotion, and tracking of the donation/contribution accounts, capital campaigns, and planned giving 
  • Work directly with and learn from the organization’s current donors and contacts to foster closer relationships with current and potential donors 
  • Develop a strong understanding of the organization’s current and historical initiatives and minor events to better promote individualized stories of success
  • Event planning
  • Attend community events, deliver presentations, and network to cultivate friends and donors for the organization

Grants

  • Coordinate and author grant proposals, including identifying and researching appropriate prospects that align with the Company’s strategic plan 
  • Tracks grant reporting deadlines; compiles grant reports 

Communication and Marketing

  • Develop and communicate a clear and consistent corporate image to the public and stakeholders via all media platforms, i.e., social, print, and broadcast 
  • Coordinate relationships with members of the media; assist in the development of press releases when needed. 
  • Update the organization’s website 
  • Organize electronic marketing materials such as photos, templates, and other materials for future use 

Administration and Leadership

  • Work directly with company leadership including the CEO, CFO, VP for Community Services, and the Board to achieve short and long-term strategic goals 
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information regarding any MCE records and data 
  • Establish and manage a budget with the CFO’s input 
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the CEO and as pertinent to the MCE mission and business development

Reporting and Cross-Functional Relationships

This position reports to the CEO and works directly with company leadership, including the CEO, CFO, VP for Community Services, and the Board. This position does not supervise other employees.

  • Strong computer skills, including competence in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, basic graphic design software, social media management tools, website management tools, and database management

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to represent MCE with multiple media platforms, including print, television, electronic media, and radio
  • Ability to coordinate the efforts of volunteers and staff for successful events and campaigns
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to handle challenging situations, such as complaints
  • Ability to understand the needs of persons with intellectual developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries
  • Ability to perform as a member of a leadership team
  • Ability to work and attend events in multiple locations throughout the day

 

Materials and Equipment

This position requires the use of a computer and other office equipment, promotional materials, and event supplies. Traveling locally in an automobile is also required. 

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Use a computer for extended periods
  • Moving objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Maintain empathy and a safe environment for persons with intellectual developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries.
  • At times, the person in this position is required to switch tasks frequently  
  • A full-time workweek with regular business hours plus occasional extended workdays or weekend work for event attendance or management, or the achievement of a goal.
  • Frequent local travel and occasional regional or nationwide travel

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two or more years of development or marketing experience
  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • A proven track record of fund development
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and/or experience in marketing, communication, business, or nonprofit management
