SUMMARY: 

Under the general direction of the Director of Revenue, performs a variety of functions related to third party billing to ensure the financial stability of the organization. 

This is a full-time, 40 hours/week position (Monday-Friday), located on-site at our administrative office (110 Elm St.) in Providence.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Consistently applies the Brown Physicians, Inc. values of patient care priority, dignity, collaboration, integrity, and quality in support of our mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient care, research excellence and outstanding physician education. Responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the Brown Physicians, Inc. Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Consistently practices the Brown Physicians, Inc. Customer Service Standards. 

  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding medical billing practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applications including eClinicalWorks, EPIC, and on-line insurance verifications/claims status.
  • Research issues, conducts problem resolution and makes recommendations to manager
  • Works with all Brown Physicians, Inc. sites to answer billing questions
  • Works with third party representatives to get reimbursements on new codes and solve payment problems
  • Assign work and provide guidance, assistance, and support to staff. Function as a resource to staff in resolving complex or sensitive issues
  • Coordinate and monitor performance of the practices that affect charge/payment posting and Cash Reconciliation; communicate problems and suggest resolution to their managers 
  • Assist in month end processes
  • Responsible for training of new staff on Brown Physicians, Inc. billing system
  • Runs monthly denial and write off reports, triages and identifies areas for improvement
  • Does free care applications, billing statements for attorneys, verifies medical expenses for housing requests
  • Maintains and updates billing policies and procedures 

 

BASIC KNOWLEDGE: 

  • Baccalaureate degree in business administration or related field, or the equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Communication skills necessary to explain new codes and how to bill them both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve goals.
  • Highly organized and detailed.
  • Exercise sound judgment and decision-making. Able to assess and differentiate priorities. Proficient in federal, state and local third-party billing policies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with and through people to get the job done. 
  • Fluent user of Excel with ability to create graphs, summary reports, pivot tables
  • Proficiency with computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel and Access, and Web-based applications).

 

EXPERIENCE: 

Five years of experience in the field of physician billing

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: 

Supervisory responsibility of full-time billers. 

Assists in recruiting, hiring, and promoting according to Brown Physicians, Inc. policies.
