The Accounting Manager plays a key leadership role in managing the hotel’s day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with Marriott brand standards and local regulations. This position partners closely with the Director of Finance and department heads to safeguard assets, produce accurate and timely financial reports, and support operational decision-making to achieve the hotel’s financial objectives.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Operations Management

  • Oversee daily accounting functions including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Income Audit, General Cashiering, Taxes, and Internal Controls.

  • Ensure timely and accurate billing, collections, and reconciliation for individual, group, and credit card accounts.

  • Prepare and review daily revenue reports, Food & Beverage income audits, and variance analyses.

  • Maintain accurate City Ledger and Direct Bill Authorization files, ensuring compliance with approval procedures.

  • Supervise the preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Implement and monitor internal control procedures to safeguard assets and maintain compliance with Marriott policies and applicable laws.

  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, ensuring documentation and processes meet audit standards.

  • Oversee compliance with tax regulations, including the preparation and filing of all required returns.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide coaching, and identify training opportunities.

  • Promote cross-departmental collaboration to ensure accurate financial data collection and reporting.

Operational Partnership

  • Partner with department leaders to provide financial insights that drive business performance and cost control.

  • Monitor and report on departmental budgets, assisting managers in understanding variances and implementing corrective actions.

  • Support strategic initiatives, special projects, and capital planning.

Guest & Associate Experience

  • Promote a positive guest experience by supporting operational teams with accurate billing and financial resolution for guest issues.

  • Maintain open and collaborative relationships with all associates, encouraging engagement and recognition.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 10 lbs without assistance.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience in hospitality, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.

  • Strong knowledge of hotel accounting systems (e.g., Marriott PMS, MARSHA, BirchStreet, GXP) and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
