About this position:
We are seeking an event professional to conduct event sales and booking (and related activities) for Seattle Center. This position will schedule and book events on the main Seattle Center campus, evaluate potential event business, communicate initial client requirements, prepare legal documents, and ensure client compliance with payment terms and conditions of licensing agreements. This position reports to the Campus Event Booking & Contracts Manager.
This position is a term-limited temporary position scheduled to last about 15 months.
Position Duties
Here is more of what you will be doing:
- Develop and execute sales strategies and tactics to secure event rental business for the Seattle Center campus including community festivals, concerts, athletic events, marketing activations, meetings, banquets, conventions, and trade/consumer shows.
- Seek new clients and events to increase revenues; communicate the capabilities and operating conditions of the various event facilities on Seattle Center’s campus to clients and promoters.
- Develop relationships with event planners, promoters and companies, and industry colleagues to cultivate future business.
- Respond to booking requests with information, facility tours, pricing and date availability, demonstrating creativity in meeting the client’s needs.
- Assess new clients and event opportunities to ensure that events that are booked meet the programmatic, operational and financial needs of Seattle Center.
- Prepare and manage facility rental contracts and related legal documents, monitor fulfillment of client contractual requirements including follow-up on overdue payments.
- Work closely with staff to assess feasibility of events, facilitate information flow between staff and event clients, and address any specific issues in relevant contract documents.
- Become familiar with and work effectively within the framework of Seattle Center’s booking practices and computerized booking system.
- Conduct global booking-related tasks in collaboration with the rest of the Event Booking unit, including but not limited to event projections, rate setting, benchmarking, sales and booking policy development, and annual support tasks such as updating procedures, addenda, price lists, etc. both within and outside of the Momentus Enterprise software.
- Work effectively in strong cross-functional relationships within Seattle Center, with Seattle Center’s resident organizations, and other City departments and agencies.
- Support reporting to various stakeholders about event projections, statistics, and calendar data; anticipate and communicate the impacts of multiple event activities in close proximity.
- Collaborate with Event Management when needed to prepare estimates, billing statements, create event orders, and disseminate information to the applicable Seattle Center departments.
- Participate in Event Booking Team planning and take responsibility for assigned special projects and facility initiatives.
- Participate in the Seattle Center Content Team, supporting presence of Seattle Center commercial event clients on Seattle Center marketing/communications platforms when appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires two years of professional experience in public relations, sales or facility scheduling, and a baccalaureate degree in Business administration (or a combination of education and/or training and/or work experience which provides the ability to perform the work of the class).

- Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
Desired Qualifications:
You will be successful in this role if you have:
- Two years of facility or event sales experience, preferably in an entertainment or conference center venue, in a caterer-operated event venue, or in the field of event sponsorship, with a demonstrated record of achieving specific revenue goals and increasing sales from a diverse range of event clients.
- Excellent writing and computer skills, including Word and Excel.
- Experience with Momentus Enterprise or a similar computerized event booking and/or sales lead tracking/Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
- Strong customer service skills to deal tactfully and courteously with a diverse clientele with varied needs.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment; organized and detail-oriented.
- Superior telephone and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in conference center, performing arts venue, or special event operations with a variety of event types such as conferences, trade/consumer shows, banquets, concerts, walks/runs, marketing activations and/or festivals.
- Knowledge of sales strategies and tactics, including lead generation and tracking, cultivation and closure techniques.
- Knowledge of various event rental markets and their unique needs.
- Experience working in a union environment.
- Strong problem solving skills, calm and flexible under pressure and in possession of a good sense of humor.
- Experience as an effective communicator – proven ability to effectively collaborate with a wide range of individuals while interacting in a positive, respectful, and productive manner.
Work Environment/Conditions:
- Requires occasional extended periods of walking/standing.
- This position offers flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. The first several weeks of employment will require 100% in person attendance in order to create relationships and gain familiarity with the facility, after which employees will be expected to be in-office at least three times a week.
- Must be willing to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.
Other Qualifications
The full pay range for this step-progression position is $40.78 - $47.54 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $40.78 hourly. Current City employees’ starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.
