Job Description
BeVera Solutions is seeking a talented and versatile Writer/Speechwriter Support Specialist to assist the Public Affairs Office in producing high-quality written materials and executive communications in support of the MRDC mission and engagements with global combatant commands. This role will be integral in developing compelling content, from newsletter articles to executive speeches, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with operational security requirements. The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing and editing skills, a strong command of AP style, and the ability to translate complex subject matter into plain language for diverse audiences. This position requires a collaborative approach, attention to detail, and the capacity to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with quick-turn deadlines.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field, and 3+ years of professional writing, editing, or executive communications experience; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience writing and editing content in Associated Press (AP) style for newsletters, websites, or other publications.
- Ability to work with the writer/editor/engagements personnel to develop story ideas and approaches.
- Proficiency in web writing principles, including formatting for readability and accessibility, and understanding of DoD OPSEC requirements
- Interview subject matter experts on complex issues, and write plain-language newsletter articles that are ready for publishing.
- Write and edit for web style with an understanding of operational security requirements. Rapidly research topics and write talking points or speeches for executive leadership to include but not limited to:
- Industry and academic events, (City of Frederick events, Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program graduations, Strengthening the Mid-Atlantic Region for Tomorrow Procurement (SMART PROC) conference), and
- Military events, (Association of the United State Army (AUSA), Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS), Military Medicine Partnership Days (MMPD)).
- Ability to rapidly research and synthesize information into concise, impactful talking points or speeches. and create slide-sets in PowerPoint.
- Proficiency in web writing principles, including formatting for readability and accessibility, and understanding of DoD OPSEC requirements
- Attend speaking engagements to hear presentation styles and calendar scrubs and syncs to ensure coverage and awareness of command events.
Conditions of Employment
- Work Location: Position is located on-site in Fort Detrick, MD. Must reside in Frederick, Maryland or surrounding area to meet duty location requirements.
- Work Schedule: Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work outside normal duty hours may be required to meet mission needs.
- On-Call and Holiday Coverage: Weekend and federal holiday on-call support may be required.
- Travel Requirements: Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS), including travel outside normal business hours, to fulfill mission objectives.
- Telework: Telework is at the discretion of the Government and requires prior approval by the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). The standard expectation is on-site presence.
- Government-Furnished Equipment: All required equipment, software, telephone, and office space will be provided by the Government.
- Training: Must complete training on Government financial systems and program management systems as required for the position.
- Information Assurance Certification: Must possess and maintain the appropriate and current Information Assurance (IA) certification in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M prior to performing IA functions.
