JOB SUMMARY:
The dispatcher is responsible for supporting Class A CDL drivers, identifying issues, and using critical thinking skills to find solutions. Working together with Operations teams to ensure on-time service is met and equipment is utilized profitably.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Set up daily and weekly pickup and delivery schedules.
- Manage and effectively dispatch a fleet of trucks.
- Manage the accuracy of delivery schedules.
- Strategic planning and coordination taking into consideration a wide range of variables.
- Maintain a strong line of communication with drivers, managers, and transfer stations.
- Clearly and timely document pickup and delivery instructions tickets in the system to ensure no disruption in schedule or driver payroll processing.
- Use our dispatch software to update loads, enter loads, monitor loads, and workflow.
- Work with drivers to ensure they are providing proof of delivery and other shipping documents through the dispatch software app.
- Notify the Dispatch Manager of all incidents, collisions, and mechanical issues. Reroute the driver’s schedule if needed to meet the customer’s demand.
- Review payroll and ensure payroll employees are entering correct rates and changes made to any rates.
- Calculate rates for potential and current customers.
- Supervise and provide progressive discipline to drivers.
- Review driver hours.
- Ensure excellent customer service to customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of local dispatch experience.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with others under any type of condition.
- Excellent clerical and organizational skills to keep track of schedules, routes, and personnel.
- Fluent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of computers for scheduling and other dispatching duties.
- Ability to work Monday to Saturday.
- Ability to multitask with different, and sometimes conflicting, events happening at the same time.
- Ability to work under stress and remain calm and to calm other people during rapidly changing circumstances.
- Ability to relay information in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Safety-oriented and a team player.
Physical Demands
This position is considered to be mostly sedentary and will require the employee to sit for extended periods of time. It will also require the employee to occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. They may engage in bending, stretching, reaching, and other motions in the course of a working day. They will be engaged in using office equipment and computers. They may engage in lifting supplies and materials up to 20 pounds from time to time. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear.
Working Conditions
This job is located primarily in an indoor office environment with varying noise levels. There may be varying degrees of temperature. The employee may be interrupted from time to time.
